Those muther*******

Oh well, look what James Cameron wants:

He told the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers that he expects GLASSES FREE 3D for his Avatar sequels!

Now the question is, will all of our existing 3D movies be compatible with that. My guess is yes because what needs to change is on the display side, unless the display will convert 2D into 3D on the fly...doubt that though.
Man, I hope so. I'd hate to have to dip again. Ugggh, this industry! :gah:

Yeah right :lol

My understanding with glasses free 3D is that getting it to display that way at a significant size is the trick which is why we're currently only seeing it on the small Nintendo 3DS. Considering they can't even do it on a 48 inch screen yet (to my knowledge) it seems a little unrealistic that they'll have the technology ready to go for IMAX screens in 2018.

I'm still getting it.

I'll be picking up TFA in 3D as well and in the grand scheme of movie purchases both releases together will still be cheaper than the $59.99 to $100+ laserdisc purchases I'd make back in the day but it's annoying that we have two separate home video releases with still no proper theatrical presentation. Yes there were showings in 2D 2.35:1 and there were RealD 3D showings in 2.35:1 but the preferred viewing experience by far were the IMAX showings and LFL are just being dicks about holding off on it when other Disney divisions like Marvel are making proper home releases from the get go.

The only reason I'll be getting this second "interim" release is because I'm assuming we won't see another TFA blu-ray until after the trilogy is complete. If they announce a "Collector's IMAX Edition" a few months from now I will be PISSED and will show my displeasure by continuing to watch every SW movie they make and repurchasing the home releases every few months. :monkey1

The 2012 55" demo from Sony/Toshiba failed, I believe it was a multi layered lenticular type screen that hurt eyes and 3D off axis was no good.

The Ultra 3D hologram 65" screen tech being touted now eliminates both the eye strain and off axis problems BUT it only delivers about 85% of the depth that is possible with current 3D.....boooo.

So yeah unless Cameron knows something we don't glasses free 3D is still about 10 years away.

The funny part is that supposedly 8K is so sharp that it actually pops like 3D.

I'm sure that resolution will be part of the solution.

Thanks. I didn't get the email. :monkey2

Apparently, Best Buy also sent out mystery Reward Certificates via email to some people. Don't know how they were selected, I didn't get that email either...:monkey2 :dunno

I got that one too, but you don't know what you get till you're at the register. I've gotten them before. I always get $5. :(

I'm ready to just blow up at Best Buy, they have ****ed up my rewards card, and I am not an Elite member despite dropping 2k on a laptop. Elite is 1500 spent in a year...so yeah...

I want to see if I can go and get that 50% with the movies I just got. That's like 75 bucks back.

Plus they owe several certificates.
