8k lol you never see an 8k disk format for movies ever. You can bank on that. The best we will get is 4k disk upscaled by the tv to 8k. Movies arent shot in 8k, there is no 8k content its a technological ****ing unicorn when it comes to motion pictures and always will be. The disk space required to hold an entire motion picture in 8k does not even exist, even if studios took the time to remaster an older film into 8k (which is possible with film but not digital shot movies) they have nothing that could hold that much data. Now 8k video cameras thats a different story but nobody needs an 8k tv to watch home videos. I will add sports or any live event like the olympics can be shot in 8k but good luck getting any cable company to broadcast it in 8k in the US, comcast cannot even do 4k let alone true 1080p lol. If you want to see any 8k content you would have to move to japan and even their 8k content is limited and doesnt look much better then the 4k signals they broadcast.

Hdr is the key, 4k to 8k pixels dont make **** of a difference cause the eye cannot perceive them. That why the jump from 4k to 8k is really worthless just like the jump from 1080p to 4k would have been without hdr. The first 4k sets had no hdr you would be hard pressed to see a difference between the picture on that set and a top of the line 1080p set. You add in hdr and the image blows it away, add in dolby vision and its even better. Pixels dont mean **** when the eye cannot see them

:lol :lol

Does that mean not much existing content will make the leap?

Digital film editing became popular around the 90's and most films even to today are mastered at 2K, so if something was shot on film and mastered digitally at 2K it could be remastered with a new scan of the original film.
I don't think that 35mm films can translate to 8K though
And for things that have heavy use of CGI (like most films these days) you can't do anything about the CGI pretty much since it would be incredibly expensive to re-render the effects at a higher resolution. And for older films that have CGI effects it's probably impossible to simply re-render the CGI since the original files could be lost or just not usable.

So as far as true 4K and 8K, your best hope for that content is entirely new content, and there's just not much being done.

While part of me wants it, I think I'm stopping at just the OT. Even though I feel like this almost qualifies as part of the OT.

I bought an extra copy in case you change your mind lol. There was no way i was missing out on this steel, i loved the movie and the best buy steelbook was fugly.

The only two i missed out on so far is PM and Atoc cause at the time i was just going to do ot and rogue one but i changed my mind, now i got to hope they get a 2nd preorder sale like the OT got. The solo steel looks awesome too, il be buying that one as well, puts the best buy one to shame

I was wondering what qualified as a "retina display" for TVs. I guess viewing distance plays a part too huh.

Yes I was surprised they made the effort with Star Trek TNG on Blu.

I may take you up on that, cause regrets stink!

And I agree, the Best Buy steel for RO is butt ugly.

With my collection, I was thinking of going 4K with movies shot on film and stay with regular Blu-Ray on digitally shot films but after seeing this comparison video, I'm thinking of going all 4K now - especially @ 01:30 with the truck comparisons.

I know the image brightness was slightly increased but on my 4K tv, the difference is night and day. Can someone explain why the 4K version look so much better if the master is 2K? I mean, at best, it could only be an upscale of a 2K copy but the 4K version looks like there's more "information" in the image and not simply a sharpening of the image.

HDR and dolby vision, better color and metadata to control image brightness and highlights to more accurately reflect/project the source data image on the screen as it was intended

Nice.

Can anyone (Khev, Jye) recommend what they feel is the best soundbar to go with a 75 inch Sony 4K tv?

I'd like Dolby Atmos and a separate bass... but I also don't want to break the bank. Any help would be great.

Here is another option https://theproductanalyst.com/soundbar/sony-ht-st5000-review/

With a 75inch tv you dont want to go to cheap this seems perfect for your set up. Its way cheaper then going the discrete channel route (receiver and 5-9 speakers) and the sound will nearly mimic it depending on the size of your room

Funny, I just read that before I posted.

The Visio F6 looks like the one for me, but I've read a lot of connection problems online which make me nervous. The other issue is my sofa is against a wall so the two rear speakers are kind of useless (or become side speakers).

For the price, I was considering the Sony G700... with faux Dolby Atmos. Well reviewed overall. And only $200.

Well yeah, but a bit pricey for me. Nearly as much as my tv.

Rule of thumb the cost of your sound should approximate the cost of your tv set up. In my case my my tv was 5k my sound setup cost about 4500 (receiver plus all the speakers). Dont cheap out too much on sound it makes a huge difference to your experience a 75 inch commands good sound or else the tv will outbalance the sound so to speak. If your tv was smaller sure the smaller sound bars would work
