So this release has zero extras only the movies theatrical and EE.

BUT the ultimate set next summer will also not have any of the appendices that we already own therefore we will still need to keep our current HD box set.

Only 2 things that the ultimate edition will have that this release doesn’t have which will be the HD 1080p discs being taken from the new 4k master and some new extras.

Both completely useless meh i’m sticking with this current release they will certainly do the trick.

Oh and the steels are fugly too lol

Regular case for me.

You mean current release as in the soon to be released 4K set on December 1st? If so then yes that will be all I'll need as well.

I actually really like the look of both steelbook sets.

Smaug is the only one I think is ok.

The Fellowship marching was the right idea but the execution is so so.

The rest meh especially five army and TT really bad.

The trees lol

My eyes go to the main backdrop art and not so much the little characters in the front so maybe that's why I like these. I do like that Smaug one. I really haven't watched *any* LOTR/Hobbit films since the ST began so I'm really looking forward to pouring through all of these again next month.

It sucks that 48 fps HFR can't be supported by home players as that is my preferred viewing experience (not to mention 3D) for the Hobbit movies. The HFR is an acquired taste for sure but it just feels "right" for those movies to me.

Get this.

UHD format does not support 48 or 120 yet it supports 60 YET Gemini Man and Hobbit are mastered at 24 lol

The PS5 outputs 120 and hdmi 2.1 tvs accept 120 like the new Sonys.

But no Hobbit 48 for us.

Have the LOTR Appendices ever been released in HD?

The discs in the EE BluRay are just DVDs.

Re: The Blu-Ray Upcoming, News & Info Thread

Did I enter a parallel universe?

There's an actual 3D movie being released on Blu-ray in the USA!

It's not listed on retailer sites yet, but seems so out of left field. How long ago was it the last time a 3D movie was released in the US? Alita? Abominable?

Fun Film in 3D.. I'll probably pick the new one up.

Re: The Blu-Ray Upcoming, News & Info Thread

That would be crazy if they advertise 3D and show it 2D lol
I've seen it happen a couple times, some unwatchable movie called Spiders was listed as being 3D, but wasn't. I think some place had a Monster Hunter(?) movie that had 3D in the title, again 2D all the way.

I'll still check it out, just to see if it is in 3D.

My latest pick up is both seasons of the Mandalorian with the behind scenes gallery blu ray custom set. I like the retro art style used on it.E00A168D-B69D-4848-9F94-36A2AB7C1373.jpgACB5B3BE-4BF0-4740-9E55-DF73FE22AFA3.jpg

Those will be priceless after Disney digitally erases Carano from the streaming version, lol.

In all seriousness awesome art on those.

Yes sir they are a great set and at least no matter what we got 2 really good seasons of the show. I am curious to see where Fett's show goes and what they do with Mando. I liked Cara Dune in the show and think there was some over reaction on Disney's part but that is out of our hands.
