Two really nice things i didn’t realise:

The RoboCop 2 UHD includes the laserdisc 2.0 mix! I’ve never seen a new release do that before and it sounds fantastic. Kudos to Shout/Scream.

And on the new Columbia Classics vol 5 On The Waterfront is on three separate UHD discs in three separate aspect ratios. That’s an incredibly comprehensive and rare thing to do so kudos to Sony for that one.

I was going to join the anger from T1 fans about the waxy looking tree leaves but because they included the original mono track i’ve decided on not wasting my time on being upset over leaves that pass by in seconds.

Would I have loved getting a fresh 4K scan and less use of the AI processing monster removing and then digitally adding back grain, sure would’ve.

But thankfully the waxy items this time are super minimal and are relegated to background items like tree leaves, door knobs and phone cords, small stuff that pass by super fast.

No waxy cenobite stunt men to be found here lol

They listened to the fans about the original mono audio and for that alone I feel it’s worth the upgrade and me rewarding them with a purchase.
DNR is annoying but much more forgivable than actually changing the visual (cenobite heads) or audio (weak pew pew gunshots) content itself. Glad to hear that even the DNR is minimal for T1. Wow, I thought I'd be forever resigned to watching it on a decades old standard-def DVD!

Newly announced Criterion discs, all 4K except King Lear. Never seen Performance so pretty excited for that one.

4K Terminator arrived and I popped it in and watched it until he blew away the first Sarah. HOLY CRAP WE HAVE PROPER GUNSHOTS!! :thud:

It's truly surreal to see such a stunning transfer for this movie with the proper audio. I never thought I'd have this. :monkey2
So excited for this!!!!

Cameron being informed about fans’s concerns about the original mono audio…

When Gale Anne Hurd first announced on X that T1 would be getting a 4K release I bugged her about getting James to include the original theatrical audio so I'm totally taking credit for this, lol.

Both she and Carrie Henn have "liked" posts I've made about ALIENS so I'd say we're all pretty close at this point. :lecture :lol

Got the T1 disc as well. Transfer looks excellent.

I'm also realizing I've never watched this movie with the theatrical audio. The original gun sounds, while outdated, are indeed meatier (the .45 especially), but the newer mix has the remastered music and more immersive soundstage. If only they could reintroduce the old sounds into the wider mix, I think we'd have the best of both worlds.

Still, a very cool package and surprisingly fan-conscious coming from Cameron's team. Wish they took the same approach with Aliens.

Oh and I forgot to drop these …

I finished the rest of 4K T1 last night and man, an already perfect film gets its due. One thing that is often revealed with lower budget films in HD and especially 4K is that visual imperfections become even more glaring. Shockingly T1 looks *better* the clearer the picture is, and that just goes to show how mind-bogglingly good a job they did with the resources they had at the time. Even the dodgy rear projection used in the future war sequences integrate with the foreground action a tad better (to my eye anyway) with this new transfer. The stop-motion Endo looked better as well.

One thing that made me chuckle that I don't normally pay attention to is why was Matt wearing a t-shirt with a giant Albert Einstein face on it when he was calling Ginger, so random, lol.

Who would have predicted that a movie starring Adam Sandler would become a Criterion Collection release? Just when you think you've seen everything lol...
