Also what was with the Boston Dynamics robots? Look really out of place.

Agreed. Present-day, Earth robots should not be used in SW. Isn't this supposed to be "a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away"? Takes you right out of the story.

You watch, now that these are "in-universe", they'll show up at Galaxy's Edge.

Ugh.

Mandalorian felt like a show that was bigger than everything else. You knew what you were watching was special (well most episodes anyways). It brought back that classic Star Wars feel and that Star Wars mystery that was missing since the OT ended. It didn’t feel like just another show it was THE show. This wasn’t Cookie Cutter Marvel Entertainment Number 77, this was The Mandalorian. New, exciting, different yet familiar.

The more I think about this episode and series as a whole, the more I realize that Book of Boba Fett is beginning to feel like Cookie Cutter Star Wars Entertainment Number 1. It feels like this is the beginning of the Star Wars formula that we are all so accustomed to with Marvel now.

Don’t get me wrong, I like most of the MCU, but after watching it all, very few films stick out above rest, and even fewer stick out above the genre itself. For Star Wars, the OT did that. The Mandalorian did that. And I would even argue the final season, more so the final arc of the Clone Wars, did that too. They stuck out above the rest and that is what every Star Wars product we get should do. And each of those shows did that by not following a formula.

I don’t want a formula for Star Wars. I want it all to feel like Star Wars, to feel like I’m in a galaxy far far away, but be different enough that it still feels new and exciting. I walk into a Marvel movie or show and know what I’m going to get. I don’t want that for Star Wars. The OT set the bar. The PT, for all its faults and complaints from fans, was different enough but still felt like Star Wars (for me anyways, again, not cookie cutter PT, distinctly different, but still Star Wars). Even The Clone Wars achieved this.

But Book of Boba Fett? It feels like a cookie cutter of a very watered down Mando-esque show. It isn’t breaking the mold, doesn’t feel fresh or exciting, but molded neatly to shape so the blueprint for Cookie Cutter Star Wars Entertainment Number 2 can follow.

Maybe this is far too early to judge, but man I can’t help but notice it. It felt like a Marvel show. Good, good enough, I like it, mindless entertainment and consumption with fan service, but it wasn’t the OT, it wasn’t Mando Season One, it wasn’t the Clone Wars Final Arc. It was just another product. Maybe after the ST I should be happy Star Wars has reached this place of “good enough follow the formula make good passable mediocre shows.” I don’t know, I expect more. Makes me a little worried about the future shows.
IMO midway through Mandalorian tho - without whining/ranting again about it:horse - Mandalorian slid into heavy fan service, Filoniing, too much too soon bringing Luke into the mix, and IMO once you slide into that direction, it's much harder to refocus on original characters, narratives and keep the rawness. Especially when a lot of people LIKE what you are doing e.g. nostalgia and familiarity and lots of it. It's a lot harder to come up with original characters that people really take to.

Things lose their edge, too. Like the Sandpeople were mysterious and deadly and alien; Mando somehow being able to interact with them was very cool because of that, and I don't need to know how that happened. But now they're just kinda misunderstood or something, with some awesome new black robes (tho to me that makes no sense, unless it's the coolness factor, as the twin suns would bleach the robes and you could be easily seen against sand - but can't wait to order the HTs lol:D) Like, from what I thought of Tuskens, the first thing they'd be likely to do is step on your body and move on.

Anyway I didn't have a heavy investment in this show, so it's fine - more like sitting on a comfortable sofa than edge-of-seat so far (like the Iron Man suit up revisit); like Fennec a lot; not to sure it was the BEST idea to give Boba an entire series but here we are. Crossing my fingers the Marshall shows up, eventually.
Meanwhile vs. Grogu scarfing eggs and the outrage after - how you like me now? :monkey3:lol

That's not really true.

Rogue One, Solo and The Mandalorian made me happy.

The Book of Bob just isn't one of Disney's finest Star Wars moments yet.

The first and last thirds had some good things, but the middle third was very odd, and didn't do Boba's legacy any favours.
It doesn't suck tho. Tho Boba fans may not be happy. Anyway - in a way - writing Din D'jarin was probably easier as the back history was sketchy at best. There's more room to maneuver and less expectations, going in. IMO it's too early to say; not all of Mando's episodes were stellar.

I'll start out by saying I didn't not like it, but it wasn't a terrific start.

I was just surprised at the tone of this movie. From seeing them interact in The Mandalorian, the banter between Fett and Fennec seemed pretty out of character. Fett not knowing anything about being a crime lord seemed really out of place too, like did you even want the job? Why not just kill Fortuna, steal some money and head out? The most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy wants to rule with respect and not fear? And then he's just going out there himself to individual bars, really?

Just some odd choices, like I was surprised he even asked the Rodian if he wanted him to free him (who wouldn't anyway?), and that Fett didn't just leave him to die. I also thought it was funny when the sand people first come to rescue him, there's 4 of them and they're all walking in different lines. Totally opposite of what Obi-Wan says how they go in single file to hide their numbers.

Like I started with, I didn't not like it, just didn't love it. One thing I frigging hate though is how they won't put Gamorreans in full costume. They look like cosplayers.

I'm still hopeful that things will improve but that was not a good start. I know I'm beating a dead horse but Morrison really feels like a poor choice to play the character of Boba Fett. Not much about him feels like the mysterious bounty hunter from the OT that became a legend.
I don't think Morrison is the issue based on what I've seen of his acting ability. I think he's boxed in by poor writing and direction.

That's just it, I've never been a Boba Fett 'fan'. I liked his portrayal in ESB, never consumed any of the EU material wherein he was brought back. So I'm not up against my own preconceptions other than a reasonable expectation to stick with tonal and narrative tropes that reflect the original source material -- reflect, not slavishly mimic. That being said, I don't think it sucks either. Not yet.

Think the world is filled with miserable people that will never be happy…
..… we could have gotten a Finn spin off...

I WAITED A WHOLE ******* COVID YEAR JUST FOR 35 FREAKING MINUTES OF SLOW WIMPY FETT!

I knew not to trust RR I knew it that guy freaking directed those Spy Kid movies!

Holy crap that was embarrassing!

Mando is a masterpiece compared to this joke!

I CAN’T BELIEVE I JUST WITNESSED FETT DRESSED LIKE BATMAN RETURNS WHITE PAJAMA PENGUIN!

Went in thin!

Came out Devito Penguin!!

Great looking parkour BUT who asked for that!

Fett said MATE!!! So Fett is Australian!

That crap took me right out! :slap

He is a dumb *** being lead around by Fennec!

The fighting was really poorly executed!

So Fett looks heavier when he comes out of the Sarlacc? That's strange. You'd think they would use a stunt man with similar body proportions as the ROTJ actor.
It's okay, the Sarlaac has a built-in defense mechanism where it triggers quantum collapse and produces a mini wormwhole, in which Boba got caught in, and was transported to a mysterious realm where he went on multiple adventures, and got fat after he became King of the... Kingdom of the... things. A good story, for another time.

I assumed you would hate it. Now you just need to stop pretending to like the ST just to spare Khev's feelings.

Hmm. When they left the "Paradise", Gammorreans were right behind them, yet in the next scene, they are nowhere to be seen just to rush into action two minutes later. Weird mistake.

I saw that too. Maybe they changed their minds about the hose and feed thing.
