Boba Ben, did you ever see the Carnotaurs in Disney's Dinosaur? They were pretty awesome.

Yeah man. Those guys were pretty awesome. I remember they made a really big and detailed Carnotaurus figure from that movie.

I guess it's just the nostalgia factor for the old Jurassic Park one. It's that one toy I really wanted but never got to play with from my childhood. Mark my words, one day I will have him and my Alan Grant figure will fend him off with his useless net throwing backpack.

So are all of these going to be in scale to one another... or will there be jumps from one dio to the next? I could see a large collection of these (all the same scale) being very impressive.

It would be cool if they were all in scale with one another, but there might be some downsides to that as well. Really huge animals like Brachiosaurus and the monster sized plesiosaur they found in the arctic would be too huge to display.

I'm not sure how Sideshow is going to work out the scaling issues for these pieces.

That is true... forgot about some of the behemoth's that might be part of this line. But how could would a piece be if they had a giant upright Brachiosaurus in the series.

That would be a really impressive piece to have. I like the way you think.

To be honest, I'd also want some of the smaller dinosaurs to be of a smaller size as well. A gigantic compsognathus next to the tyrannosaurus rex just wouldn't look right.

I agree... maybe if the series gains some steam they could go for broke with some pieces, and will smaller dinosaurs have little herds, or groupings around larger dinosaurs.

Keeping them all in scale would be really awesome, but I'd settle (And actually prefer gien the size of some) for them to be comprable in height with slight changes in height to indicate scale.

It would be cool if maybe they'd give us more intricate dioramas for some of the smaller ones. A whole pack of velociraptors hunting prey together in a forest scene would be a really cool display and it would look very impressive next to bigger ones like the Tyrannosaurus and Triceratops statue.

Or for the larger species they could always make it a "juvenile" or something of that nature. But a 2ft tall dinosaur would be sweet :rock

That would be pretty awesome. I'll bet if they could keep the price to about the same level as a 1:1 bust they could sell some.

Have to say that does sound good, preferably a pack of Utahraptors bringing down and Iguanodon... that would be fantastic. I would be surprised if they didn't do the famous Velociraptor locked in combat with Protoceratops. Still, my favorite piece to see next is definitely Allosaurus vs. Stegosaurus dio, and a T.rex maquette which I think it's safe to say we'll get.

The Carnotaurus in Disney is AWESOME, well the pair of them are awesome. Even though they call them Carnotaurs which is a bit odd and LUDICROUSLY oversized them, I still find them delightful. At the time the movie was being made, paleontologists were unearthing a Carnotaurus skeleton which they thought would be of epic proportions... possibly around T.rex size. When fully excavated it turned out it was nowhere near that large. Even to help reinforce the enormous proportions Disney has a faux gigantic Carnotaurus skeleton at the entrance to their ride in Disney World. Still, even though it's not paleontologically accurate in terms of size, the skeleton is a remarkable rendering and is a marvel to behold in person. While the real Carnotaurus wasn't that large, it is a very cool animal. It provided us with the first evidence of a prehistoric carnivore with a hinged lower jaw, allowing it to expand its mouth like a snake to engulf prey that is very, very large. Also, thanks to rare skin impressions uncovered, we know what their skin looked like, and the Disney Carnotaurus and the Sideshow sculpt are EXTREMELY accurate.

That JP series 2 Carnotaurus is an extremely rare figure, usually selling for north of $100. One day I'd like to get one, but I'm happy with my TLW Carnotaurus. :D

I'm with ya, THX, now that Sideshow is making Disney products I would like to see the Carnotaurus pair from the movie rendered; there's no reason we can't now get a dio of them fighting Bruton the Iguanodon. Great scene. :rock Ricardo Delgado, the mind behind the "Age of Reptiles" graphic novels (which if you haven't read I highly recommend) was disappointed that some of his original conceptualizations didn't make it to the final film. There was a scene intended when the herd crossed an estuary and were attacked by Mosasaurs lying in wait similar to crocodiles ambushing wildebeest. The concept art was in an old issue of Prehistoric Times; I'll see if I can dig it up or I'll drop their editor, Mike, a line and see if he might be able to help. The scene sounded awesome, but they were afraid it would startle kids. One of the things I actually like about that movie is that it is extremely gritty and graphic, depicting a large number of lesser known dinosaurs. Very underrated once they get past the cheery beginning. :banana

I always enjoy reading your dinosaur posts, Scar you're so knowledgeable.

In regards to the scale issue I was thinking it might be neat if Sideshow had little title plaques (like the Marvel LSB so collectors can choose to display without it) that gives the name of the Dino and the scale it is presented in.

I love Delgado's work and have his T-rex litho framed. You can still pretty much get Age of Reptiles in secondary markets. As for SS's direction on this, its really welcome however I prefer building my own kits. My favorite dino sculptors in this genre being David Krentz who did a lot of the character design for Disney's Dinosaur. He once emailed me that he wasn't too happy sacrificing scientific accuracy in order to fit Disney's vision of dinos with human like characteristics or gestures (ie. smiling iguanodons implying they had lips). Another artist I like is Tony McVey whose own carnotaurus kit I bought several years ago and still waiting to be built. Here's a crappy pic of a bronze version but what's not lost are the grace and seeming more natural pose of the figure:

:lol Awesome. Thanks, man. It helps to have taken so many courses in the material and that it's still such a huge hobby (though obsession might be a more appropriate word). There was a time as an undergrad when I was going to be either a behavioral paleontologist or a field biologist until I realized there was no real money in either area. I guess the best dreams die that way, huh?

An accessory plaque type of deal would be really cool, maybe on the mini-skull or something. I love the mini-skull accessory planned for these, but I think that would be a good idea to accompany each one. That'd be cool.

That kit looks awesome! A very good depiction, though like the Carnotaurus Disney made, I think he went a little light on the external naris bumps. That aside, very very cool.

Krentz seems to be saying the same thing that Ricardo told me. Covering the beaks of the Iguanodons with lips was a biff on the part of Disney, all just to make the dinosaurs more expressive. I guess it might have been difficult to get them to emote otherwise... but I'm not sure. Can't ever really know now. Maybe if we saw some scenes rendered otherwise, but seems like that ship has sailed.

Which dinosaur in the Disney movie spoke with the voice of the lady from Touched by an Angel? I can't remember.

Hiyo! You are correct sir. Wasn't she on ER as well?

No real money?
Wow, that's really suprising..Why is that anyway man?

Maybe I missed you guys talking about it, but did anyone else see what I think is a T-Rex previewed in the new video podcast? Getting a pic now.

Edit: Here is the pic.

I've just about decided th order this if the price isn't too bad. The problem is I know if I do I'll be a completist for the maquettes. I shall try to resist the vs. dios.
