THE CONJURING is one of the BEST films I've seen this year, and genuinely one of the creepiest horror films I've seen in a long time. It truly demonstrates with a good director and cast, you can do a lot with very little (and it actually has production value! How shocking in this era of cheapy PARANORMAL ACTIVITY sequels.)

It felt good to seeing an audience react to real atmosphere and thrills. Certainly a better emotional response than any recent movie with $250 million dollars worth of CGI robots/superheroes destroying buildings, or masturbatory shots of uber-realistic carnage.

I agree...

This movie is what the Paranormal Activity movies wanted to be and failed at. This was a fantastic horror movie. Loved it.

Just saw it and really liked it but what was up with the doll? I was lost at the first of the movie. I thought the doll was a current event in the girls apartment and then the movie was going back to tell the backstory.

I thought it was OK.. I could tell in was the director of Insidious.. I think he has good ideas here and there but is unable or not talented enough to make those ideas scary.. I am a pretty Jaded Horror fan though. Most viewers in the theater seemed to think it was scary.. My wife and I both thought it was a perfectly average time waster that we did not regret seeing.

I just wish someone would make a good old fashion ghost story where you imagination is forced to fill in the blanks.. That was my problem with both this and Insidious.. Sometimes the subtlety was thrown right out the door for cheap boo scares.

I enjoyed it for what it was. Didn't find it scary, though. It was interesting as someone who has followed the Warrens for years, though it obviously was nowhere near the "true" story. The Warrens actually made things worse in real life, supposedly. The family stayed in the house for 10 years afterwards.

Part of my problem with the movie is that I'm completely enamored with the paranormal field..have been for almost 20 years. Having been into it and investigations for that long, I believe almost none of it. 99.9% of it is explainable or flat-out bull****. That's mostly why I just wasn't invested in it. The investigation aspect was really interesting to me, I just don't believe much, if any, of what the Warrens have to say.

Yeah but, it's fun to watch. I love those UFO shows and cryptozoologly paranormal stuff because it's just pure entertainment.

Do I believe The Warrens? Probably not. Do I believe the film version of the Warrens? Every step of the way.

Production budget: $20 million
Opening weekend box office: $41.5 million

I wonder, if we tallied up the amount of obligatory Man of Steel pot shots you've posted in all of these movie threads, if we could count them on two hands. My guess would be "no.":lol

That being said, I agree with you. I really liked the film, and I have a great amount of respect for anything that goes old school to deliver scares. There wasn't a ton of gore, or gratuitous violence, or anything, just a good old fashioned ghost story.

Lol....I hate the Paranormal Activity movies. Nothing but "jump scares" in those movies. I could walk around a grocery store with an air horn and elicit the same type of reaction out of people.

~~I' think I'm going to try and catch this movie one night this week after work. The wife refuses to see this movie so I'll be the creepy guy in the theater sitting by myself.

Wow... surprised this was such a hit over the weekend... I guess people don't want just big noisy blockbusters in summer!
Great film!
Seen it twice and I love the creepiness of it!
I can see them making a sequel of sorts... pretty sure it's already approved! :panic:

Agreed, go see this. I think you will like it.
