I wonder, if we tallied up the amount of obligatory Man of Steel pot shots you've posted in all of these movie threads, if we could count them on two hands. My guess would be "no.":lol

That being said, I agree with you. I really liked the film, and I have a great amount of respect for anything that goes old school to deliver scares. There wasn't a ton of gore, or gratuitous violence, or anything, just a good old fashioned ghost story.

Dude, did I mention MOS? No. I just have a problem with how bloated genre films have gotten. I'm GLAD when Hollywood pumps 250 million dollars into a mediocre script and it underperforms. Look at PACIFIC RIM. Instead of being clever and making it for a modest budget like the kaiju movies it's based on, they pumped TRANSFORMERS money into it and people are shocked it bombed.

All these movies are commercial eyecandy. Fine. But there's no reason they can't be just as dull and mediocre for half the budget. Who knows? Maybe smaller budgeted genre films will force filmmakers to come up with clever new concepts and focus on character and atmosphere. Oh wait. They did that with THE CONJURING and it'll probably end up with a higher profit to budget ratio than most of the "big" movies this year.

Relax, sir. It was just a joke. No harm intended.:duff

Saw it today. Didn't love it. My own fault though. I thought it was a ghost/haunting type movie and of course it's not. For whatever reason demon possession/exorcism stories do nothing for me. Theyre not creepy or compelling at all to me. Can't explain it. It's a well crafted film...just not what I was expecting or wanting.

I know. It was just a breath of fresh air to see a successful movie that didn't cost enough to end world hunger.

Oh, absolutely. I'm honestly not a big horror fan, but I think this might be one of the better films that I saw this year. It's always a breath of fresh air when you see something go back to its roots. Sadly, we live in an age where actual storylines have been abandoned for torture porn and cheap "shocks," and, to see a film that retained some of those classic sensibilities, and provide scares without having to resort to the modern "conventions" of horror (cliches, rather), was a breath of fresh air.

Pacific Rim bombed? I read and heard otherwise. :dunno

It bombed domestically.

And if you rooted for Pacific Rim to fail, you should stop watching movies.

I could watch Vera Farmiga going to the store and buying groceries... I thought conjuring was great. I go to a movie to be entertained and I was!

I also had the pleasure of seeing the movie with an obnoxious family.. lots of waving at the screen and saying "Oh hell no". Should have gone to Alamo but the Amc is closer to me. I always get the headsets for the hard of hearing for just these situations.. so I missed out on alot of the quiet ominous voices in the theater surround sound. blu ray buy for me!

Saw this on Twitter,
it made me :lol

Now even MORE people are going to watch this!

A pretty damn good horror flick in the 70's style. It nailed the most important aspect of a horror film, the atmosphere. You could feel the dread. Loved the soundtrack.

what a MEH movie. the typical cliches. saw a ghost and goes towards it to shat thy pants some more.lolz

Maybe Grown Up 2 is more to your liking. :dunno

:lol

I enjoyed it enough to get it on Bluray and that's saying something. These days I don't enjoy too many of the horror flicks that are out there. This one is a must. It will go nicely next to Insidious. Which is about to have a part 2. :yess:
