Since it looks like nobody else is going to bump this thread, I will do it.

The edition size has been set at 1500 pieces, and it is now sold out at Sideshow's website.

ES still too high. The days of SS/Weta are over. Maximum ES should be 1000 from now on.

1500 is too high? Next people will say 1000 is too high. 1000-1500 is about the right limit for LOTR pieces.

I think that for the price, the edition size is nice. I actually expected it to be higher. Now, if it were a $350 PF, fewer people could afford it and 1500 would be too high. But for a nice little piece that has a price down in the double digits, I think 1500 is appropriate.

Although I could have picked him up for free with reward points and still didn't order him. It's just not the perfect scene for me to freeze in time and add to my collection.

I'm actually quite surprised the edition size is this low. Not my cup of tea, but I thought alot more people would order this because of the price and quality of the sculpt. It wasn't that long ago SS managed to sell 7500 of that "piece of crap" gollum as gollum companion statue, yet they can only sell 1500 of this clearly superior diorama? How the mighty have fallen! :monkey2

Well what's hurt LOTR is that there where a lot of speculators and fly by night fans. Now that it's not Red Hot anymore thing need to adjust for those of us that are true to collecting LOTR.

I can't honestly see how you can say the ES is too high when its already sold out... You might WANT it to be lower so you have a rarer piece, but they've already sold the 1500 - what would you have them do, contact 500 people and say "sorry we cannot fulfill your preorder as we've set the ES at 1000"?!

1500 is a nice size, but it is rather telling for all things future. Sad if you think about it, that they could only move 1500 of these at that price --- the ships might have sailed I am afraid.

Hopefully the next time they won't lose RoboDad and me due to their choice of subject matter...

Although I don't see any of the dioramas, be it SW or LOTR, having an ES larger than 2000. Except the con exclusives.

I think that was the main problem with this particular piece. I know the subject matter is the reason why I didn't order it. Just not something I'm interested in. And with this new line, we are talking about the recreation of a scene in the movie, rather than just a representation of a single character.

Sideshow could turn around and make a Gandalf w/Balrog set at 1,500 pieces and have the thing sell out in no time.

The choice of the subject matter was fine. It was a piece based off the movie which is what the line is about. NOT THE BOOK. :)

It's certainly a great sculpt of the movie moment, and anyone who doesn't have a problem with that will be happy to own one. It's just that some of us do... and would probably have swallowed this choice of subject matter a bit more easily if it came further down the road.

I still have big hopes for this line, of course!

I understand that. I did then and now still find it odd that people got so upset that they went with this pose because it didn't match the book. Since the line is based on the movies and all. Either way I think this line will be very cool.

Frodo has a more evil expression that Gollum...

:D maybe some day you'll see the alternate head we did. He could have devoured whatever was left of Gollum's soul he was so angry. maybe somewhere down the line it'll crop up in a blog or something, although that's really doubtful. He sure was P-O'd though
