"Oh, that doesn't mean anything. The Dark Knight Rises is a classic, and the best Batman film. **** the original Batman, it's nothing. No importance, bad film."
- Khev

"Just wait until this is done overseas. Flawed argument, worldwide will increase it, specifically the UK." - Intothevoid

"It's the shootings fault, clearly."
- Alex Logan

:lol Next topic.

Moar!

https://www.cinemablend.com/new/Dar...Fewer-Tickets-Than-Original-Batman-32602.html

The movie industry focuses on sheer box office grosses far more than tickets sold for a very simple reason-- thanks to inflation and rising ticket prices, you can always claim your films are more successful than those from the year before. It turns movie history into a constantly upward-moving graph, and belies what all of us know when we choose to stay home with Netflix on a Friday night: way, way fewer people are going to the movies now than they used to.

And it's not just that the record numbers that saw Gone With the Wind in theaters trounce everyone who saw the ostensible biggest movie of all time, Avatar. The difference is stark even looking just 23 years ago. Movies.com noticed, among the scores of data over at Box Office Mojo, that Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises is on track to sell significantly fewer tickets than Tim Burton's original Batman. Like, 10 million fewer.

They come to that number with some simple math, comparing the average movie ticket price of the time-- $3.97 in 1989 and $8.02 today-- to the amount taken in. Batman sold an estimated 62.9 million tickets when it was released, while The Dark Knight Rises has sold only 50.6 million so far. It can make up that difference as it continues to play in theaters, sure, but it can't come close to catching up. And as Movies.com points out, that puts both of them spectacularly behind the summer's big champion, The Avengers, which sold 76 million tickets. Wow.

Everyone knew that The Dark Knight Rises was underperforming compared to The Dark Knight, but these numbers really drive home what a difference there is between financial success and actual public approval. You can fiddle around on Box Office Mojo and make your own comparisons, and report back any other fascinating discoveries in the comments.

Not that it really matters, but didn't everyone and their grandmother go see the original Batman? It was one of the biggest spectacles of our age, concerning film. Batman has always been a bit more popular than Superman on top of that.

So, a lot of people were really pumped for the first major motion picture Batman flick. It featured his greatest enemy, both played by some of the most well known actors of the age, although Keaton may have been more of an up and coming.

Plus, comics were a relatively big thing around that time. So, after word of mouth and all the trailers and promotions, it was like flies to ****. These days people have already seen TDK and Batman Begins. It's not surprising that TDKR hasn't sold "quite" as many tickets as Batman '89, despite our species ****in' like jack rabbits, lol.

That's just because of how Batman '89 was marketed, that's all. It doesn't matter how well it was received back then. TDKR is making more money, PERIOD.

The Phantom Menace did well, so did Batman. People were just stupid in '89 and '99. They're both equally **** movies of no importance.

Ticket sales don't mean a thing. Dumb article.

Now Star Wars . . . what a great idea.

Here's my prediction for Batman movie from the year 5,001.

Movie Tickets will be $100,000,000 each.

20 people will see it.

2 billion at the Box Office!

Great Success! :yess:

Yeah, I still vaguely recall Batman '89 being in your face. Although, I was a young impressionable little boy who wanted to jump off of buildings and fight crime too. So, it was hard to miss all that stuff. :lol

Yeah, exactly.

Especially the bold part.

Only children and young people saw Batman '89. It wasn't as sophisticated as TDKR is now and adults didn't see it because it was too childish. Batman only captured the imaginations of youngsters back in 1989 and there were way more kids back then than there are today.

TDKR should beat Avengers in the next three days. I guarantee it. Even if it doesn't, TDKR still got more attendants and tickets sold because Avengers cheated with 3D.

It was kids and young people yes...but who brought em to the theater...adults...

I'm actually surprised TDKR wasn't offered in 3D.

Nolan doesn't do that stuff, he's above all the directors that succumb to the mind-numbing 3D crap.

Warner Bros. probably wanted it but everyone knows Nolan is top dog in Hollywood. He had his say.

The best there is. TDKR didn't need crappy gimmicks to help sell it and make it the best film of 2012.

All adults thought Batman was stupid because the movie was so cheesy. Most parents just dropped their kids off at the theater. No adults were fans or took Batman '89 seriously, still don't.

This was before crime was so prominent (especially abduction) and you had to worry about your children being alone.

no, it is not bad, what it is bad is to LIE about one of your fellow Freaks :monkey4 ruining my Rep with the ladies :monkey4 :stick

By "ladies" do you mean the 300lb, maternal basement dwellers pretending to be chicks? Or did you mistake Void for a little Middle Eastern chick (happens all the time)?

I think he's pointing out the irony that the fanboys are touting this as the greatest Batman film of all time while trash-talking the living **** out of Burton's film. And yet, the irony being it won't have sold as many tickets. :lol

:rotfl

It wasn't as pretentious as TDKR is now.

FTFY :clap

:cuckoo:

What color is the sky is in this guy's world? :lol

Ah, Nobats fanboy tears. The crisp, refreshing taste you've been waiting for.

pretty much, for being the best batman movie ever made, it wont even sell as many tickets as 89 batman
Not that it has to, it doesnt, this doesn't really matter,

TDKR isn't even out of theaters yet. It's been what, a month?

It'll make 3-4 Billion in the next couple of weeks internationally, easily.

Other than 'specifically the UK', Fabio already made my point for me :lol

I'd like to see 'tickets sold' estimates on a total box office (worldwide) basis across all the Batman films, I'm betting TDK would be number 1 followed by TDKR
