Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Yeah but Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tom Hardy are much more well known then the actors/actresses who portrayed Maroni, Gambol, the Chechen, Ramirez and Wuertz, so that's a bad example.

If all four of them are villains/main characters, then yes, that is too many. You can't have all of chomping up screen time (whilst competing with Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman mind you) and expect to have a coherent plot/film.

I'm beginning to think Talia is more of fan speculation and nothing more. Who remembers the good pre-TDK days where every day we were getting a "confirmation" that Harley Quinn would in fact be in TDK? Never happened.

I believe this to be the same scenario. I highly doubt Talia will be included in this and I'm hoping she isn't. I was one of the few that shuddered at the thought of Harley Quinn being in TDK back when it was simply known as "Batman 2". Back then, everyone had some kind of list of actresses be it Sarah Michelle Gellar or some other hot blonde shell.

Focusing on Catwoman/Selina Kyle, is what I expect to happen. The mob angle has been done to death (Batman, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight), so I don't see why bringing in Black Mask is necessary. To show that freaks have merged into the mob and are led by someone stronger, uh, didn't both Joker characters do that in Batman and The Dark Knight? Plus, TDK Joker completely wiped out the main parts of the mob after Batman crippled them.

It would be contradictory and make the Joker look like a worthless putz in my opinion.

I have a feeling none of us will really know what to expect. I remind you of everyone, myself included expecting Harvey Dent/Two-Face to live an be a villain in the next film, along with Batman inflicting Joker's wounds (which was partially true) and Harley Quinn being in the film.

The only thing that everyone guessed right was Rachel's death, but who didn't see that coming?

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

difabio, your shutting me down all over the board today. hah (I figured that dude would post a picture of the original head he is casting...it's sketchy and if your gonna get wet you might as well go swimming)

good points. Although, I stand behind the idea that alot of villains doesn't equal too much because of nolan's approach. (regardless of the actors, i.e. zsasz was a great addition to BB, same as scarecrow in TDK IMO)

I just think hathaway and hardy are a given to have major parts in this movie. thats like one and a half villains. that's two new characters.

In addition, as far as we know, you don't have twoface, joker, or rachel in this movie. those are three main characters from the last film and all had their names on the poster. I dont think replacing those with one additional name, hathaway, hardy, gordon-levitt, and cotillard, is that big of a stretch.

just because the other two speculative additions are big-ish names, doesn't mean they have to compete for screen time...i'm thinking of rutger hauer in BB. The roles might be important but still small. This is what I was getting out with using the small fish as an example. Big and small, they are still important to batman's battle.

I never speculated as to who JGL or marion cotillard will be playing. But I remember when posters for TDK came out how STACKED the names on the top were. That is a good thing no matter how small a roll one might play.

Talia never sounded rational or appealing to me. and black mask, as you said, would be rather played out, especially as you speculated.

Joker tore apart the mob, yes. Doesn't mean someone else wouldn't pop up and try to run things. That person could be a 'freak'.

It would be different from the Joker. And I really don't see how that would make the Joker seem worthless.

He changed things...

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I don't think having the Falcone family in the next movie minimizes the Joker in any way. Nature abhors a vacuum. A Falcone family member steps up to fill Salvatore Maroni's space.

Otherwise you'd have to say The Joker cleaned up Gotham's underworld and it makes Bruce look incompetent.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Not necessarily, Batman pretty much eradicated them before the Joker came onto the scene. That's the whole point, Batman, Gordon and Harvey Dent were so close in finally bringing down the mob before Joker showed up.

Then, well, enter the Joker. He certainly didn't help the mob, he tricked them, betrayed them and ended up killing them off (Maroni was wise to this hence why he didn't show up to the Joker's meeting). Falcone, Maroni, Gambol and the Chechen were pretty much key players in these organizations.

Falcone is missing (possibly dead), Gambol was killed by the Joker, the Chechen was killed by the Joker, and Maroni may very well be dead or seriously injured. Who does that leave? More members of the Falcone crime family? At this point with the likes of Batman and the Joker, who the hell would want to step up to that?

To top it all off, everyone believes Batman is a psychotic whack job that not only knocked off mob members, but cops and Harvey Dent also.

The mob is in complete shambles. Sure, someone could step in like Maroni did for Falcone, but at this point why bother? It feels forced. The mob was in the spotlight for both films and if this is indeed escalation, it's time to let them go. That was the whole point of the Joker, the next logical step, criminal psychopaths, not old time, family mob criminals.

"People in this town used to believe in things, honor, respect, what do you believe in, huh, what do you believe in?"

That mob element is over. We have Joker now, a guy that runs around with a bag over his head gassing people, a woman dressing up as a cat etc. etc.

The Mob is old hat. Sure, you could bring Black Mask into the picture, patch things up, but why? We all know how that would end.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Doesn't Black Mask have a cult? That's pretty different to the mob.

Though I think with something like that Black Mask would be the main villain. So I'm not expecting him to be in the movie.

You are probably right that there will be less focus on the mob (or almost none at all) in this next one. We'll see what Nolan does...

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

What about Alberto Marconi as Black Mask? It would make sense, even though it wouldn't follow canon. I doubt Black Mask will happen, but I think it is doable. I guess the big question is whether Bane is going to be a mastermind or henchman.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I hope neither JGL or MC end up being in this film, I don't want Inception part 2. I could deal with maybe one of them being in it, but both (in addition to Hardy) would be way too much.

Black Mask running a Secret Society of Gotham's rich billionaires > the Mob

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I really don't know where people are getting Talia from at all. I mean it wasn't ever hinted in BB that Ra's had a daughter and with Bane and Catwoman announced as the bad guys so far, I don't see how she would really fit in. I see Bane as being the, pardon the pun, Big Bad in this film with Catwoman as more of a secondary problem/love interest. She'd kinda like the Scarecrow of this film. But Talia? I think she will NOT be in this. People just have it in their heads that she will for some reason and I just don't get why.

Bane being part of the mob could be a possibility. TDK showed us the Mob is made up of people from all over the world (the Chechen). So a Spanish guy isn't unlikely. But if they don't go this route, I really feel they either need Black Mask in charge of the mob or flat out tell us the mob is completely gone because of what happened in TDK. Either way the mob needs to be addressed somehow. They were too big of a part in BB/TDK to just leave out compeltely without at least a little line about why they are absent.

hope they bring a new d.a it should be janice porter

I've read similar thoughts. I don't understand why it's a big deal.

If their characters are different enough it should be fine.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I don't really care who he casts. I'm confident he can get what he wants out of actors.

I especially don't care what actors have been in to this point.

And I really especially don't care if he uses the same actors from one unrelated movie to another.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Nolan, like most directors, finds a crop of actors he likes to work with and he likes to stick with them. I don't understand why you wouldn't want him to collaborate with the actors he feels most comfortable with.

Think about Scorsese and DeNiro, Pesci and Dicaprio. Copolla and Pacino and Brando. Fincher and Brad Pitt. Nolan likes Bale and Michael Caine and Ken Wantanabe...

Its a team. A collaboration. Why would you want to break up the band.

If it means that the third batman film is going to be as good as inception i don't care if he uses the ENTIRE same cast.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I suppose then that means Guy Pierce, Hugh Jackman, and Al Pacino missed the boat.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Guy Pierce could be really cool in a Nolan Batman movie... deadshot?

Not gonna happen but your post got me thinking

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Guy Piece is such an under-appreciated actor. He should have become A-List a long time ago. I've been wanting to see him in a Nolan Batman film. My two favorite films he's done are Momento and LA Confidential. Prior to Ledger playing Joker I had hoped to see Pierce in the part.
