Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Pretty much everyone is going to see The Avengers though. ;)

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

If I had to pick one, it would be The Avengers. But I don't have to pick--I get to see them both. However, I am more likely to take the whole family to see Avengers, but leave the kids at home for Batman. So I'll support both movies, but Avengers gets more of my money because it appeals more to kids.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Theaters can show whatever trailers they like. :dunno

Most theater chains are owned and operated by studios.

The distributed product sold to outside theaters already have studio ads infront of the film being sold.

The new trend is independent theaters not being able to purchase non 3D versions of films without already purchasing the 3D version.

Not true at all.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Fixed for accuracy. :lecture:lecture:lecture:exactly:

Over-infusion of main villains? Check!

Superfluously blowing up a Stadium with CG? Check!

Lame female lead trying to be hot? Check!

Only thing they're missing is Bay. :lol

And then you woke up.

Okay, :dunno

In 1940 Paramount V US, was a case against major motion picture studios to stop buying out theater chains and exclusively showing only their movie.

This has gotten more lax since the 80's and studios have started buying shares/purchasing movie theater chains again.

Cineplex- Universal
Mann Theaters- WB
Pacific Theaters- Disney

But ya, you're right. Not true at all.

Plus United Artists still owns a piece of AMC. :lecture:lecture:lecture

My two oldest kids (7 year old girl; 4 year old boy) have seen The Dark Knight. I'm probably going to take my kids to see TDKR in the theaters ... though the wife and I will see it first without them. I can't imagine it'd be much more intense than TDK, though.

Then again, my 4yo son's favorite movie is Jurassic Park ... so maybe he's unusually sturdy for a kid.

3d isn't being pushed nearly as hard as digital. Within 5 years 35mm prints will no longer be produced for new releases. If your local mom and pop bijou want to keep showing the occasional first run they will need to install a digital projector system. Needless to say that's beyond the financial grasp of the little guys.

Yeah, I have three theaters in my town, one a local operated theater and the other two Carmike's 7 and 10. The 10 is the only one with digital projectors. Studios are definitely pushing it hard. So much that the other two are pretty close to shutting down.

I was just saying that theater chains are unable to purchase non 3D versions of films only. In order to have those versions they are being made to purchase the 3D version with it.
Digital blows

Yeah, most film schools these days have changed all their filmmaking degrees to "digital" filmmaking. It's definitely the new way.

I would partly agree that it does suck. But it is a cheaper way of filmmaking. The only difference visually with film vs digital is really true IMAX now. Digital cameras can produce some really nice product though. Especially the Red camera system. Pretty awesome stuff.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

^^^^
I agree with that too. :lol

3D usually blows no matter what. I only kinda liked it in Avatar and Jackass 3.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

No, there was product placement in TDK
