Agreed. Definitely disappointing to know there will be no mention made, but ultimately if Nolan's uncomfortable with it then I can respect that

All due respect to Nolan's deep rooted respect to Heath, his tragedy and his family, but Heath signed on the dotted line to portray the Joker, doesn't mean he owns it or that the story should change because he was an irresponsible human being.

If he was still alive, Joker and his Gotham changing actions would've been mentioned in this movie, he might've even been in it.

So to make believe he never existed is actually paying Heath's legacy less respect, not more!

Yeah, lets just ignore the drug addict ever played the Joker.

Oh well, he's in jail somewhere I guess. :lol

Man, that 8 year gap is a real pain in the ass. :lol

Wait until DiFabio hears about this. :panic:

I also think the success of TDK makes it necessary to have TDKR distance itself. Nolan's in a tough spot, TDK was so huge, he said he wouldn't do another Batman unless he felt he could tell a story that would be just as good, but I think he also needs this one to stand on it's own, continue events of Begins but be independent from TDK enough to keep that film out of people's minds when entering TDKR.

Except that other plot points of TDK will be heavily referenced, particularly the ending and the Harvey coverup, so it's a tight balance

I can't wait to see this film and I think(and hope) it will be the best Batman movie ever made, but IMO,I could be wrong, Bane wont beat the Joker performance wise and to not even mention Batman's greatest enemy in the third film after all he did in TDK is a bit disappointing.

They could of easily said "Jokers in Arkham" or something without having to kill him off.

____ this 8 year gap. :lol

Yes, but that plays directly into the path Bruce/Batman's life takes. As it was presented, the Joker was a moment in his life, but the choice he and Gordon made about Dent's fate and Batman's have consequences that will catch up to them, so you have to address that. There's nothing the Joker did in TDK that need be addressed in the long term of Bruce's life except killing Rachel, and who knows if that'll come up or not.

Yes, in comics and other series, Joker is looming threat in Batman's life and doesn't simply show up and end up arrested and that's all you ever hear of him, but Nolan's making a trilogy with a well rounded story, it's not necessary to maintain the Joker's origins, Nolan has his own Joker that serves a purpose to his story, and that doesn't need go beyond 1 film.

Yeah I get that and will probably not even notice the lack of mention of Joker TBH as I expect i'll be pretty immersed in the film. It's kind of good that Nolan has gone out and said there's no mention of Joker - now people won't be going in with some expectation at the back of their mind.

Agree, I would've kept waiting for it and not enjoying what I was getting in the mean time, I would've been pissed off. :lol

It's his 'Like a Boss' pose :lol

Heh.

While we laugh at Bane doing that, I imagine Nolan and Hardy probably put more thought than we'd expect into that trait of Bane.

He infiltrated a police funeral procession, shot at a cop, hung a dude that slammed the mayor's window, killed other civilians, brought down a police helicopter, threw an ADA out of a high rise, murdered an ADA, murdered a judge, murdered a police chief, burned another DA, stole millions, hijacked a boat with civilians and blew up a police station and a freaking hospital for christ's sake! :slap

Terrorist are not easily forgotten. :nono

:nana:

But all of that was to set up the fall of Harvey Dent, and though it worked, Gordon and Batman covered it up. As we've seen, Nolan's taking the easy route and tucking it all away as "Joker was arrested and is in Arkham." under the guise of him "respecting the performance" and not wanting to taint it in any way. :lol

Welp, lost a little respect for Nolan about the Joker. Quite the cop out indeed. Makes most of that inconic stuff he says in TDK worthless. This Batman faced the Joker one time in his entire run as Batman and then the Joker vanished forever never to be seen in Gotham again? That ain't Batman. That ain't the Joker.

"You'll be in a padded cell forever." Forever.

Football players walk around like that all the time holding on to their shoulder pads at the collar bone. It's a comfort/relief thing.

I have completely forgot about Bane's height issue.

The past 2 months all I see is one cool looking bad ass individual and who more importantly comes off very intimidating, threatening and calculating.

He actually scares me more than Joker, Ras and Scarecrow with Joker a close second.

June is going to suck.

Edit: Now that I think about it, ET scares me more. :lol

Tom Hardy seems like an unusually great interview ...

Q:There is a brilliance to Bane in addition to the physical. Are we going to see that this is a smart guy, equal to Batman in intellect?

Hardy: All I can think of is you’re calling me stupid. [Laughs] I kinda want to flip the table up and throw you through the window. That kinda answers your question doesn’t it?

Heh. Good answer.

This is what makes me think this movie isn't gonna be worth the hype. You have to tie everything title together and distancing yourself seems stupid IMO. Don't be afraid of your previous work and build off of it totally. I mean you're using basically the same movie title. In other words people are going to be thinking about it man up and go for it.
