Strangely enough, there wasn't a thread for these two classic and massive games, so here is the thread pertaining to the discussion of Final Fantasy X and X-2 from story discussions, trophies, figures, soundtrack and anything else.

To kick things off, here is the IGN review of the remaster:

About time someone started a thread for this! :lol

Here's an unboxing of FF X/X2 HD Limited Edition. Judging from the video, it appears as if Square has packaged the LE, in the same style that they used for Kingdom Hearts. That means, that the LE comes with a mini art-book that's merged together with a folding case. I'd rather a separate art-book, but it doesn't look that bad. It's really the games that matter in this. I haven't played FF X since I was in high school, and I absolutely can't wait to try it once more! :clap

Well, it's no Last of Us survival Edition but that looks sweet! I can already smell the artbook.

I haven't played these FFX for almost a decade and FFX-2 since 2006 so pretty much everything will feel new to me as well. If it's 100 hours each then it's easily one of the better purchases such early in the year! :yess:

Its a shame i hate RPGs since i would love to revisit this game. Love the vibe.

I remember the first time i played, i got 1/4 way through maybe then learned "sprint". So i ignored every small battle, so when i got to a boss i was so weak i was insta-killed everytime.

I guess I'm the only person who's getting this at launch then? :( My copy shipped from Amazon yesterday. I should get it today or Wednesday.

Seems that you are. :lol

I cant wait to give this another go. Definitely 2 of the best FF games ever released. I am a fan of X-2. I know a lot of people wasn't.

I enjoyed X-2 for what it was and I remember having a blast with the game. I think the unfavorable reception came from extremely high expectations. which I didn't had at the time. Always wanted the figures but I could never find them. :lol

My copy of the CE and LE both arrived today. The LE arrived by mistake as I had thought I had cancelled it from Amazon after ordering the CE from the SquareEnix store. I'm going to ship back the Amazon order as I don't need the "inferior" version of the game.... BTW, the CE is really nice.

Unfortunately I can't start FFX yet because I've already started up Tales of Symphonia. : (

I just remembered that stress level I had back then trying to dodge 200 lightning strikes just to get Lulu's ultimate doll thing. Ugh...

got the game yesterday from Amazon. my absolute favorite Final Fantasy game. i cant wait to go all in this weekend with the games.

Final Fantasy X was the last good Final Fantasy IMO. Got the LE version, but I'd rather have the normal one now that I know the LE case is larger.

Comparisons between the original, PS3 and Vita versions. Looks like we got ourselves another excellent port. :yess:

The framerate also seems to have little trouble holding up to 30fps like in the original, even the Vita version:

I bought this and the figures. this game along with MGS2 and GTA3 were the first three games I had on my ps2 and were life changing for me. So happy to have this game again, been playing it non stop. Also got the jecht shot again, though it took me a second try :lol

The PAK figures are ****ing awesome too, really want them to do an Auron and Wakka at least

FFX... I loved this game so friction much!!!

X2, not so much.

Chocobo Race I could do... 200 lightning strikes, I think I attempted a few times but gave up, I can't remember. That would be the only ultimate weapon I didn't get if so. I was completely into unlocking EVERYTHING.

Just got the Limited Edition of the game, love the art, the cardboard sleeve is a little bit on the flimsy side though.

Played few minutes of FFX and I'm discouraged and dissapointed to learn that the audio is in plain stereo! Aww c'mon Square, even Konami gave us a half @$$ed surround mix in the MGS HD collection. Not even a lossless 2.0?

No matter, the game looks gorgeous!

EDIT:

I Googled the problem and looks like I'm not alone. There is a 5.1 glitch and the pre-rendered cutscenes also sounds softer than the actual in-game audio. Not cool, SquareEnix!

Really bummed out that the soundtrack had to be redone for no real reason whatsoever. While some are definitely better (such as the battle theme), most of them fall flat and missing the charm and nuances of the original. Some tracks could come off as sounding like a cover arrangement and are just plain bad. Here's an example:

ORIGINAL:

REDONE TRACK:

While coming into the HD version I have little memories of the game as I'm not big on Final Fantasy when I was younger but I was particularly fond of the soundtrack and own it on CD. I love this track as it conveys a sense of wonder and adventure, but when I arrived at the point in the HD edition where this particular track plays I was like "WTF, that's totally messed up!" :lol :slap

I STILL haven't played my FFX HD Collection as yet, but it's disappointing to hear about the changes in soundtrack. The differences seem fairly subtle, but enough to not make it seem like FF X at all.

If it's any reassuring to hear, both games are meant to be savored, so I'd wait till I have plenty of free time if I were to play if I were you, Solidus. Look forward to it. :duff

As for the changes, it's disappointing as hell, plus I have no idea why they had to change the character models as the main cast now look like dolls with dead eyes than ever before. To add insult to injury, the game runs on stereo, which kinda defeats the purpose of remixing the sound to so call "bring the game to the modern generation" when the audio format clearly takes you back to the late 90's. :lol

That being said, let nothing deter you from enjoying the game. All the nitpicks are unfortunate, yet they are often not pivotal enough to take you out of the core experience of the games.

I've never been a huge fan of the series and I'm having a blast with this, a testament on how good the game is and an era long gone with games nowadays trying way too hard to be dark, edgy and imply a greater meaning than what they are.
