I thought it would interesting to start a thread to talk about how other collectors feel when it comes to the future value of the collectibles that we have now and have purchased in the past. I thought it would be a good idea to get different views and opinions from other collectors on their ideas of what kind of values (Particularly Sideshow) the collectibles we have will be worth say 5 to 10 years from now.

For example, based on the low limited edition runs for some SS items, the scarcity of finding a particular item that we experience now will have a great impact on the value and finding it in the future no?

If someone wants to find and buy a grey hulk today on ebay for example, they can easily pay $1000 and up for the item. What will this type of demand do to these items in the future? Will we be seeing these items running in the market of $5k-$10k 10 years from now?

I think everyone has their own opinion when it comes to this subject and would like everyone to participate in this thread to get everyone's view and pick a particular item in mind that they will think will become one of the greatest grail Sideshow item in the future. Although it does not need to be an opinion on a grail item, but just an opinion on what other collectors feel will be some of the most sought out after collectibles and predicted future values of these items, say at least 5 to 10 years from now or beyond...Open your mind and thoughts and let yourself be heard..:rock

Wanted to put more items in the post but they only allow 10 sorry. If anyone has anymore to add, reply to this post.

the way our economy is still still in the crapper, I find it hard to believe very many of these statues are going to go up in value compared to maybe last year, there has been a substantial drop off on some of SS pieces for example from last year.

I understand where you are coming from, but what about when the economy gets back on track within the next few years and some of these hard to find items become impossible to find? Will that not increase the value of some of these items?

Personally, i could not care less about what my collection is worth. It's kinda neet to know "hey i got this for X dollars, and now it's worth y Dollars" But overall, To me it's more important that i like something, than whither or not it's going up in value, as I'll likely never sell anything i buy ( my Avater related to my view on my collection)

I do not plan on selling any of my collectibles as well, but its nice to know where other collectors stand in the confidence of their collection and value in the years to come not presently. I myself have a fairly large collection and I am working on getting pics together to post, but I am just curious to hear what other collectors think about the subject of "value" and "scarcity" in the future for some of these items and what that will do to the aftermarket for sites like eBay. Just to be clear, I am NOT a reseller, I have been collecting for over 20 years and I have no intention of every selling my collection. :chew

I was going to vote SS/Weta Balrog, but didn't see it up there. I'm not sure what that piece still goes for, but it always comes to mind when I hear "holy grail".

I really do think that piece alone had an impact on the "high end" collectible market and its progression into today. Never had a chance to see it in person, it was always out of my price range.

I don't think PF's will retain much value in the future. If anything, it is going to go to 1:1 scale stuff that is on much more limited production runs and not likely to be redone. I would give extra points if the studio that worked on the project also worked on the actual movie. My feelings anyway...

I wanted to add more to the poll, but they only allow 10 items a poll...:banghead I know there are A LOT of more collectibles that should be up there, but I wish I can add another poll of some sort to this thread...:banghead

i envy a lot of you that never will have to, but I'm in the position where space is limited and I continue to want new stuff, so I have to sell off stuff to make room and in this economy, I'm losing money on a lot of stuff, mostly custom items though.

I'm in the same boat. And I got some GG animated LOTR stuff which I can't get a penny for. I been giving stuff away. I rather give it away then sell it for dirt cheap.

And the problem is so much stuff keeps coming its hard for me to stick to one line. I was probably collecting almost every SS line at one time. I had almost everything on that list at 1 time bought sold it, due to space and money issues. But from everything I collected I still have the Darkness bust, Complete SS X-files line & SSW LOTR bust line, plus various other SS items.

But from the list I would think the Frankenstein or Darkness bust will have good future value. I just think the Marvel stuff will get re-done over & over while the others will have less to compete with to their own likeness. But its a guessing game. I passed on the 1st Elvis Exclusive PF thinking it will be easy to get down the road. I went to order from SS 2 months ago and its sold-out no where to be found. But I did get the Elvis "Comeback" piece.

why dont you think pfs will retain their value? cause of the fabric? The spidey's have done extremely well, but they do seem to change hands very often. I think movie maquette's will go for more than most, and i agree, the life size pieces will always be in demand.........except for the Mark III IM of course

PF's have a LARGE following and edition #'s are rising. Pf's are also constantly being improved upon and new sculpts hurt the value of older ones (Ex. future Indy PF, or luke skywalker). Plus the inclusion of 1/4 Maquettes of same characters (eX.WOLVERINE) will fill the market with more choice. At least with 1:1's its safe to say that it is far less likely characters will be redone anytime soon. This is the main reason I got out of 1/6...the rate that figures were getting redone and rendering earlier versions worthless was retarded...At close to $180 a figure, its just crazy that they get away with this...

hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
The bottom will fall out of this niche just as the sports card and comic book industries.

Make sure you keep the pieces youd like if they werent worth jack ... :monkey1

I think the Marvel items have the most legs... even if the market takes a hit, I the think Doom PF will still be a winner for a long time to come.

PZ PF (and other Dead items) will likely fade into obscurity... The ex PF and original PZ will likely continue to demand a high price (for those who still want one) but w/o any license or film to tie into it I don't think it will be a super grail of the future.

I'd like to think the Vader 1:1 Bust will do well (as I've got one coming) but SW fans are so damn fickle, its really hard to predict what will do well. The ES on it isn't bad, but the retail price is still about $200 too high IMO.
