Didn't see a thread for this yet, and seeing that the principals have been cast and shooting starts next month, thought I'd start one.

We all know that Daniel Craig will play Mikael Blomquist and Robin Wright Penn has been cast as Erika Berger. Stellan Skaarsgard will play Martin Vanger.

It was announced earlier today that the role of Lisbeth Salander has gone to Rooney Mara, who beat out Natalie Portman, Ellen Page, and Emma Watson among others.

Still not overly keen on this at all, think the Swedish version is stand alone and should be left at that! However i am lying if i said i wont check this out and i guess it is Fincher so there is hope in atleast this turning out well.

I think Daniel Craig is a really good choice however for Mikael

Who the hell is Rooney Mara, Page or Portman would have been ideal imo

Loved the original.

Rooney Mara beat out some heavyweights to get the role, but the studio seems to believe in her. I hope she does a great job.

Well I have seen pictures of a Nightmare on Elm Street Remake's :slap Rooney Mara, and I can honestly say this is CRAP casting.

To be honest Noomi Rapace is Lisbeth just as much as Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones, nobody could really replace her
Swedish trilogy for me all the way

Seriously, in the book Lisbeth is supposed to look young, but tough. Page pretty much was Lisbeth in Hard Candy. This choice of Mara is disappointing. And are they going to have Swedish accents in the American version? That could be very...um...bad lol.

I very much doubt it, i would imagine it will be shot as if it took place in America

I was saying this to Dinolast that Page was pretty much Lisbeth in Hard Candy, very similar characters, how has she not walked this part?

Brilliant minds think alike.

So I found this article:
https://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2010/08/16/girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo-rooney-mara/

Sony announced today that Rooney Mara (The Social Network) will play pixie hacker Lisbeth Salander in its three-picture adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy, under the direction of David Fincher.

Fincher’s search for Lisbeth has drawn intense scrutiny over the last few weeks, especially over whether Sony will gamble on an unknown actress to carry such an important franchise. Insiders have long assured that an unfamiliar thesp would land the role but many in town suggested that it would make more sense to go with an experienced talent. And regardless of experience, Lisbeth Salander won’t be an easy role to play: The filmmaker’s current plan is to have all the players speak with Swedish accents, a decision that could potentially prove distracting. Should the accents not be delivered flawlessly, the film’s stars could also be a potential target for ridicule.

Fincher will direct The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo from a screenplay by Steve Zaillian. Produced by Scott Rudin, Cean Chaffin, Ole Sondberg, and Søren Stærmose with Mikael Wallen and Anni Fernandez on as executive producers, Dragon Tattoo will begin shooting next month in Sweden for worldwide release Dec. 21, 2011. Mara joins the already cast Daniel Craig, who will portray Mikael Blomkist, and Robin Wright, who will assume the role of Erika Berger.

I do not agree with this choice and hope they choose to skip the Swedish accents.

This is getting worse by the minute! I dont believe they should do this with Swedish accents, if thats the case why dont we just watch the original :slap

Not one actor will nail the accent and this will become incredibly distracting!

Secondly i dont believe it should be shot in Sweden either, i think this will also prove a distraction, must be plenty of isolated places in the States to create the atmosphere without it actually trying to be the exact same movie :slap

Forget distracting, it could become one of the (unintentionally) funniest movies ever. Wow Fincher is really dropping the ball on this one so far.

Oh, My, God, in swedish accents :lol
At least Kenneth Branagh had the common sense to make Wallander with English accents whilst keeping the setting in Sweden.

If only David Fincher would check out this thread to learn how to make a quality film. :pfft: :lol

Well the first piece advice I would give him is to not direct Remakes or Sequels. Because so far this looks like he could have another Alien3 on his hands.

What this new movie is in danger of being compared to
