Quite a few posts since this thread started yesterday. Glad to see other fans of the book / original Swedish film. My $.02 on a few comments / points.

Loved the original.

Rooney Mara beat out some heavyweights to get the role, but the studio seems to believe in her. I hope she does a great job.

Fincher directed her in The Social Network, the upcoming film about Facebook. Maybe he saw something in her that pushed him to recommend her for the role of Lisbeth. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now. The only thing I've seen her in is Youth in Revolt, and that was a bit part.

I had no idea Fincher was involved! I'm gonna have to read the book now!

Yep, I keep thinking about the brutal murders described in the book, and I remember the first time I watched Se7en. Can't wait to see what Fincher does.

Brilliant minds think alike.

So I found this article:

I do not agree with this choice and hope they choose to skip the Swedish accents.

This is getting worse by the minute! I dont believe they should do this with Swedish accents, if thats the case why dont we just watch the original :slap

Not one actor will nail the accent and this will become incredibly distracting!

Secondly i dont believe it should be shot in Sweden either, i think this will also prove a distraction, must be plenty of isolated places in the States to create the atmosphere without it actually trying to be the exact same movie :slap

I agree with the stance against the Swedish accents, that could be problematic and distracting, as already has been said. But I like the fact that they want to film it in Sweden and keep it as true to the source material as possible, and this is coming from an American. Too often, American studios purchase the rights to foreign intellectual properties such as books, TV and film, and *******ize them. Thank god J.K. Rowling stuck to her guns and stated that the Harry Potter series must remain British in movie form.

There is no point in doing an American version. The current Swedish version is excellent

Yes, but you know us Americans have to remake everything. Let the Right One In was another great Swedish film...which we will see again this fall as Let Me In...

I have every confidence in Fincher to make a great movie, Swedish accents and all. They'll probably all end up sounding British anyway.

I totally understand where you are coming from but for me i would like to see them try to do something a little different, atleast make it stand alone rather than a complete remake which i just don't see the point of, i actually would prefer them to Americanise it so atleast there are differences between the two, if the setting is going to be the same and we are to get Swedish accents what is the point really?

besides the same characters, title, is there anything similar to the original novel or is this gonna be something that has 100+ people adding ideas, changes and ego tripping and become something else entirely like pretty much all the adoption?

They got her look right, and this actress seems excellent, I must say. Personally, I would have loved to have the same actress from the swedish version play this character again. She made those movies rock

I will say that the cast for the american version of Let Me In or whatever they are calling it here look excellent. The main three look to be perfectly cast.....so those are two remakes I'll see

Found this thread when I was searching for Noomi Rapace because i wanted to know what you Americans think of her.

I'm looking forward to this remake actually, for one reason only and that is because all the actors except Noomi where crap, i guess it's hard to tell when you do not speak swedish but if you do its very noticeable how really bad they are. Rapace is great as Lisbeth, Nyqvist is ok as Mikael, but the rest are really, really bad.

And I love many of Finchers films such as Se7en etc, i think he can do a great job, the only problem i can see is if they put to much religion into the mix for the US audience and that they remove too much of the rape parts of the story with her legal guardian. Also why didn't they use Noomi in the remake? She had to improve her American accent anyway for the new Alien movie.

IMO, Noomi Rapace is irreplaceable...She owned this character.....

I thought Nyqvist was decent, but I agree, Rapace was the absolute main attraction. The guy that played her advocate was a good screamer...LOL

I wonder if Fincher had asked her, would Rapace have been willing to play the character again? Probably hard to go thru that kind of character again.

Here you go.
