Most of the complaining occurred when we received ours in hand and confirmed that yours was not an aberration... :monkey2

:lol Yes, sad but true.

But I'm still in denial I guess about the magnificent changes to the paint apps. They do look better, but not hugely so. That's why I'd love to get a good close up picture of these newer figures to have a way to accurately compare.

Wor-Gar, hope these will help you in your Faramir assessment. After taking him out of the box, one of his eyes is a little off center, but it's minimal enough. The beard overally seems lighter by his cheeks and the stubble effect looks much better done than what we got in the first place. Is it a major improvement to the point of being a great head, no, but is acceptable and I think as nice, maybe a little nicer than Aragorn with factory paint. If you return yours, you'll likely get one with the paint well applied and minimally shiny skin, but this and King's and JediBear's seems to be what the best made ones will look like, so up to you what you want.

Thank you, thank you, Maulfan. Those do help indeed...although you gave him some really nice lighting :) At least you can see the creases in his forehead on yours. Mine is hidden behind a gallon of paint.

I think I'll give a crack at fixing the head myself. I'm still not crazy about the paint apps, even in the better versions. I'd probably still repaint him a bit, lighten the hair, etc... so I might as well do it on mine which I don't care for so much.

But thank you, the pictures helped me decide.

No problem, I don't mind tweaks, but part of me is attached to the idea of having a factory version too, and of the factory quality, this is certainly a nice version of the factory paint so I'm happy to add it, but I'm still going to work at my custom painted one to get it where I want it to be.

Nice close-ups MaulFan...you've got a steady hand for that. My close-ups came out all out of focus so I'll have to work on that...

Sittin here at work starin' at mine , it looks about the same...the eyes are very well done and I'm just relieved that the face isn't all that glossy.

In the meantime, here's a couple more of him out in the outdoors....

You need to delete the electric light off the top :rotfl

Other wise looks great :chew :monkey5

Well, I just cancelled Faramir...
Somehow, I noticed that I was so much more interested and excited with the upcoming Aliens warrior and Medi's Boba Fett than with Faramir.
And both Boba and the warrior do come with a substantial dollar value attached... so Faramir and the LOTR line are cancelled for now.
It's not that I don't enjoy my LOTR collection, but I just can't afford to collect everything!
And obviously, the less than stellar job on the paint apps made the decision a bit easier.
Poor Boromir, he'll have to do without his brother.

Very cool pics, JB! Where the heck do you live, anyway....it looks just like M-e! Looking forward to seeing more. Especially like these two. Great natural backgrounds!

Btw, it's been raining over here a lot lately, so no chance to get any new pics. Hope I can take some more "brothers in arms" shots when the weather clears up. :D

MaulFan...looks like you're the "close-up" man...can't seem to get a decent on with this little camera(probably operator error  )...but at least it does a fair job with everything else for me...

Don't beat yourself up man, it's the technology not me. My camera has a Macro zoom function, which is basically for taking sharp images of objects about a foot or less away from the camera, which is very ideal for collectibles photography.

Thanks Justin...I'll look into the tripod idea...macro zoom huh? Hmmm...may have to look into gettin' one with that...am always impressed with your shots MaulFan...meanwhile, the sun came out so here's some shots...they're not the best close-ups but they show a little of the paint app I got...

The beard's a little funky and shiny, but the eyes look good and there's no real slop goin' on. I'm happy with it enough not to send it back...

It's not their best painted head, but if you get one of the better painted of the production run, it's also not the worst thing ever like the first wave, and that plus the fantastic clothing and accessories makes an all around great addition to the line. I actually think this is my favorite in the entire LOTR line so far as far as outfits, bothe the way it's tailored and just the layers and depth that it has to it, very nice.

Just finished the Photo Archive at TheGD.com for the 12-Inch Faramir figure. This is a very nice figure and a GREAT addition to the LOTR line. I still am not quite satisfied with the head sculpt, but it is still a great figure.

Check it out if you have a minute!

Thanks for reading!

Geb

Very nice! Thanks dude. Always glad to see other people feel a little bit of the joy I get from this figure--even if he's all boxed up right now waiting for his head . . .

Jedibear, if you are using a digital camera (any point and shoot), there is a very good chance that you have a macro mode. It is commonly indicated by a flower icon. You do not need a macro lens for this. Macro mode on P&S digital cameras basically allows you to focus on close-up objects while still relying on automatic focusing.

Oh and if you use this mode, it is better to still be a certain distance away and zoom into what you are viewing to avoid the fish eye distortion.

Well...I'm haven' a real "D'oh" moment...amazing results you can get when you actually read the instructions.

Thanks for the heads-up Justin....

I still gotta try a tripod with this setting but it's a step in the right direction...

Oh, and great gallery Geb...
