Death is a depressing thing.
Depending on what way you look at it. What did Neeson's character have worth fighting for? The only thing that kept him going were the wallets, other then that his character was ready to die. He accepted death, you see many nod towards this throughout the film. (his father's poem for example: "live on this day, die on this day.")
