Good thing too. There would have been a lot of competition in the summer. It will thrive in December as always.

Right summer always has tons of movies. I think it would have done well but something about it being in December just feels right.

I don't know. I admit I was curious to see how this type of film would do in the Summer. I mean a film based on the world of Middle-earth. We know it can do well in the winter with every film in the series doing at least 870 million at the BO. I'm glad it moved but I'd have love to see what these films could do in the summer.

If it aint broke dont fix it...I gotta admit how DoS does will really effect the third film...plus some of those family films sound like competition....people have to really like DoS more than the AUJ...

I prefer the December release. I've come to associate Middle Earth movies with the Holiday Season, so I'm glad The Hobbit is following the release pattern as LOTR. It's the same way that I associate Star Wars movies with Spring.

Peter Jackson is really a hobbit in disguise. I like his films but he is one weird guy. What is up with his weight fluctuations.. one moment he looks like he ate frodo and the next a skinny coke head with buggin smeagol eyes... not passing judgement or anything its just something I noticed.
