That was pretty cool. Mirkwood looks fantastic and as scary as you could imagine. Can't wait to see Thranduril, Legolas, and Taruiel interact with each other.

For those that missed out, no trailer until summer as PJ and company are still cutting.

They showed footage of Gandalf and Radhagast investigating the tombs of the nine kings...great scene, very eerie in atmosphere.

PJ's pronunciation was messing with em, with teh way he pronounced 'Smaug" as well as "Dol Guldur"...sounded like he was saying "Dumbledore".

I liked the scene with Radagast and Gandalf, I've been looking forward to that sequence after it was in the chronicles book. I'm also liking the look of the Wood-elves and I'm glad they look different from the Lothlorien elves, Thranduil and his halls look awesome, I loved the elk antlers attached to his throne.

It seems that it will also be snowing in Laketown, I wonder if it will snow during the battle of the fives armies.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to that as well. Its really interesting to see the Necromancer business coming to life even though some of it isn't how it is any text. The Elves of Mirkwood look awesome and I think will be as you said a nice seperation of how the other Elves looked.

I noticed that as well. I can't recall if they say the time of the year in the books to indicate winter is coming that close but it should look cool.

Well it was Bilbo's birthday wasn't it, as he recalled in The Lord of the Rings, saying he forgot himself at the time as he was quite cold and could only manage 'Thag you very buch'. And his birthday is September, right?

I think his birthday is around September 21st so I guess with Laketown and Erebor being quite far north it could snow early in the year. Snow during the battle would certainly differentiate it visually from the rest of the films especially for scenes like the eagles joining the fight

Yeah it is. So its possible to see winter weather during that time of the year. I don't recall any mention of it snowing in any text so its a new addition that should work well.

Plus the battle of five armies wouldn't have taken place for a few more weeks, so snow during the battle is quite possible, and would look good in 3D, but still i'm sure Tolkien would have mentioned snow if he wanted it.
Damn i wish i had a copy of 'The tale of years' from the LOTR appendices at hand to check the dates...

It looks like it was November 23rd T.A. 2941. So its totally possible that it could be snowing based on real world weather. :lol Of course he would have. Its not quite how I imagined it but I am now intrigued at what the battle might look like if its snowing.
