Marvel still shows the Red Skull with the swastika in the books--big deal, right?

Wrong. It isn't one. It's a symbol essential to the character. A symbol stands for something; good or bad, symbols cover all sides of the spectrum. SS choose to switch this symbol for a less offensive one. Good PR move I guess, but I just don't understand why I can see it in the books but not on a statue. The Cross was a symbol as well, the Nazis wore it as well--if the logic with why the swastika is not seen on this PF is consistent, why any symbols at all?

Though I'm bothered by this PC move, I still ordered.

It all depends on when everything ships.

I never cancel anything until a Pre-Auth is emminent and I determine at that time that I can't justify it.

That'll be interesting to see, if that's the case and all I mean. Red Skull is the perfect compliment pice for Cap and will look great next to Doom as well. I'm really surprised they went this route actually, I figured they'd do another mainstream hero. I'm glad I was wrong though!

I did, theres just way too much stuff, plus the regular is still aval. Not to mention, the last RS piece had a smaller ES of 50...and still sells for near retail. cube= fail. hat = win.

I don't think he did--I'm trying to draw from memory here, the cube story arc isn't that old.

I'm on the fence about the exclusive for this one.

For two reasons:

1. Even though the Cosmic Cube was a centerpiece of a couple of important storylines, the design just isn't interesting. Its a transparent block. Period. Not very dynamic. It doesn't light up or look particularly cool and is a total headscratcher for any non-diehard Marvel fan.

2. The piece was obviously designed to be displayed WITHOUT the cube. How do I know this? Think about it, if you're flaunting a cosmic artifact that gives you all power over reality itself, would you really need to be hiding a puny little pistol behind your back? Of course not. It'd be like if Grand Moff Tarkin reached out his hand and said to Princess Leia, "With one press of this button I'll fire the Death Star laser and blow up your planet...but little did you know that in my other hand I've been hiding this little gun! MuahAHAHAHA!"

Wow you sure pulled a fast one there...

But with the cane he appears defenseless, until he pulls his hand out from behind his back and caps you in the head.

I agree...and comic book Nazis are badass...REALLY badass...except Captain Nazi...he just sucked...

If I was gonna buy this, which I won't...no swastika...then I'd go for the regular...

I usually obsess over my preorders from the lines which I don't really collect, but I haven't had a shred of doubt about the Red Skull.

It'll be my only Marvel PF ever, and I passed on preordering all the existing ones, from Doom on. I'll just love owning it, partially because I'm working on a Nazi-based story right now, and it'll provide inspiration.

As far as the Cube is concerned, Khev -- don't you think it could be used as a bait when he holds it like this?

That could definitely be a possibility. I could see the Skull wanting to have the bragging rights of offing Captain America with a simple handgun when he had much greater means at his disposal. Good call.

I *do* wish they had gone with a classic looking headsculpt with more pronounced eyebrows and cheekbones. His mask wasn't just a skull painted red, it had a very specific look to it:

Other than the modern head I love what they did with him.
