I'm not gonna say the remake is all that great, but at least it TRIED stuff. The 87 film was a robot becoming human, while the remake was about a human becoming a robot. I'm not gonna buy toys of the remake or anything, but I enjoyed it. Think of it as an "what if" story.

Yeah I really couldn't hate it. But it ain't no classic.

I still cry myself to sleep thinking about the Escape from New York remake that's coming... while it's not even my favorite Carpenter film, I'm more scared on who they cast as Snake.

:lol :lol I'll have to give it a really good viewing to see what else I can find. Usually when I watch the film, I get sucked into it and don't notice stuff like that.

This reminds me. I ruined this scene for my wife when I noticed some of the chum bounces off Bruce's head. It's not like a flub or anything, it's just something I can't help but notice every viewing.

Wow, thanks for ruining the scariest scene in the movie! :lol

I wasn't in the hater group for the new Robocop film, but it definitely wasn't anywhere near as good as the original. I did like some of the design--though I really didn't like how smooth and nimble he was. Plus, I didn't like the ******** car bomb that made him a candidate. As much as I still cringe when Murphy is getting blasted in the original, it's a powerful moment and the ramifications play out throughout the rest of the film for the character.

Unsee this!

Yes! Yes! I do remember seeing that :lol

Yikes. Although if they made that rubber any deeper into his shoulder and pit it would be too uncomfortable.

It was (poorly) cut that way because Weller couldn't move at all with the suit, and it got so bad that he gotten into a heated argument with Verhoven and threatened to quit thus the production was halted and they need to figure out how to work with the suit, and first order of business is to cut most of the rubber to improve mobility. Believe it or not, Robocop was originally intended to move like a snake.

Like a Snake? In what way?

I gotta take Weller's side in that given he was in this thing for hours and hours at a time. In the end it worked out.

The fabric's actually supposedly an in-universe design element, though. It's meant to be a fire-retardant material and dust shield over the inner endoskeleton.

When I was in high school, I took a trip to Manhattan and went to FAO Schwartz. I rode up the escalator and for some reason a guy in a really good Robocop suit was waiting at the top of it. :lol The suit looked about as good as what was used on screen. When you got close though, you could really see all the rough bits and pieces.

The only thing more fascinating than the movie was how difficult it was to make and how much everyone just wanted to kill each other. Here's a video about the suit:

That reminds me- my mom was a stewardess and she was part of the staff for a promotional event for the film (or maybe it was Robocop 2), and it was a total disaster! As soon as "Robocop" was going down the steps from the plane to greet children, they were crying and scared out of their minds. My mom said they had to pull the suit actor back and later did she found out that this a promotional event for R-rated film, but for kids. What were they thinking? :lol
