DC is doing a great job with their Rebirth, IMO.

I'm reading several DC comics while I'm only reading a few Marvel comics specifically; Captain America: Steve Rogers, Captain America: Sam Wilson, Star Wars and All New Wolverine.

I've never been a comic reader - what would everyone recommend as a good Batman read?

Batman: The Long Halloween is some of the better ones that hasn't been overhyped and I personally think is the smartest of the bunch.

Others that every Batfan and their grandmother would have read by now are:

- Batman: The Dark Knight Returns
- Batman Year One
- The Killing Joke
- Batman: Arkham Asylum (not to be confused with the video game)
- Batman: Venom
- Batman: Arkham City (If you liked the games, this takes places between Asylum and City)
- Batman: Knightfall

All of these have their own trade paperbacks issued, so you should have no problems tracking them down for cheap. Arkham Asylum and The Killing Joke are single issues.

Oh man, just off the top of my head--Batman Year One, The Last Halloween, Dark Victory, Hush, and A Death in the Family. The Killing Joke and Dark Knight Returns are good though I think they are overrated. There are also the Batman: Earth One stories that are a bit of a self-contained reboot.

Morning! :wave I haven't left my house all weekend and got to take a nap yesterday so it's been pretty awesome--though I wish my body would let me sleep in just once.

Is Dark Victory a worthy successor to Halloween? Also, is the Hush story any good or is it just an excuse for Jim Lee to draw so many characters?

This is today's most underrated post :rotfl :rotfl

Only read two of those :lol

Long Halloween is probably the next one I'll read.

Pretty good, but this damn heat... my AC is fine, but for working out it's meh.

I assume it's TDK and Killing Joke? They're all great, and the Arkham City book fleshed out what happened between the two games and is written by Paul Dini. Year One is just sublime, a reminder of a great time before Frank Miller went crazy.

Thanks guys! I've heard of most of them - just haven't actively felt the need to read them but I would like to give it a go one day. :duff

Killing Joke and Year One. I actually owned most of that list including Halloween, but never got around with reading them and sold them :slap

I went though a phase of buying up Batman and Wolverine comics and ended up selling all of them. But I've slowly bought back some Wolverine comics, and next year after these customs I got lined up are done, that will free up cash to buy some Batman as well.

I like Dark Victory but it's not as good as The Long Halloween. Still and enjoyable read though. The ending of Hush is a letdown but the story is decent. I liked getting to see Jim Lee draw all the characters--and they're ALL in there. The fight between Batman and Superman is better than BvS.

They're all great. Overrated? Sure! But you'll need to read them first. :lol

Wait you've never read TDK? Or watched the movie? :horror

Nice! I'll put it on my list. I always have to import my comics from the US or UK since there's none nearby. :lol

Never read it, but I'm fully aware of the plot on it.

Wow. :lol

Well, you can check out the movie starring Peter Weller, it's pretty awesome and I think I like it better than the book.

I'd add Arkham Asylum and Knightfall to my list too. Plus Batman was probably the best New 52 series until they replaced him with Gordon in the big rabbit suit.
