Saw JL this morning. Didn't like it. Didn't dislike it. It's just a movie full of nothing. It's about as safe, and generic as it gets which is understandable considering how this DCEU has been received, but WB has no one to blame but themselves for that. They put themselves in this position where they had to play it safe, and fans everywhere have been denied something that could, and should have been so much better in more competent hands.
As for Superman being more like Superman, I can't say I really felt anything from it. It just didn't feel natural, or earned since it's a total 180 from what he was before. It felt like they were trying way too hard, and it just comes off as over the top. In fact, I'd say it's even a bit cheesy, and I don't think Superman at his finest is a cheesy character. The way he was presented here, though, just felt like a bit much. His dialogue is really pretty bad in the final act.
In regards to newcomers like Aquaman, Flash, and Cyborg, they were fine I guess. They didn't do anything to make me want to see solo films of them, but they also didn't really do anything to not make me want to see solo films of them. I'm sure they could all be much better in more capable hands.
All in all, like I said earlier, this movie is just a big bowl of nothing. No stakes. No real emotion. Terrible villain. Terrible final act, and for a movie with a budget of over 300 million dollars, man, does it look like crap. The characters are fine, and don't do anything to really piss me off, but they sure as hell don't do anything to really win me over, either. This is the culmination of a series of movies that had no plan, or vision for how to execute it properly, and it's very easy to see in the final result. WB damn well better think long, and hard about their next move, because they simply cannot maintain the status quo with this universe. Serious changes need to take place, and I hope they are considering all options to make things better.
