Hurd talks future of the Hulk
10.24.2008

Looks like the future is bright for the Hulk and producer Gale Anne Hurd if you like it or not. Hurd sat down with MTV and discussed the bright green future of the Incredible Hulk.

I'm not only talking about the superhero but the amount of money she will probably bank since she purchased the rights to him in the early '90s while Marvel was gasping for air.

Those who've seen "The Incredible Hulk" know that a not-too-subtle sequel hint was dropped when Tim Blake Nelson's Samuel Sterns had a sample of Banner's blood drip into an open wound on his head, causing him to mutate. Hurd said that a proper "Hulk 2" would pick up on this event.

"The Leader," she said when asked what Nelson was transforming into when last we saw him. "It would be a blast [to put the Leader in the sequel], and Tim Blake Nelson is tremendous and a very talented filmmaker in his own right."

But before any Hulk/Leader throw-down can take place, she said, Hulk will likely be seen alongside Iron Man, Captain America and the other heroes being recruited by Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury. "Next, he's likely to appear in an 'Avengers' movie, but that's completely up to Marvel," she explained. "It's wonderful that Marvel now controls so many of their own characters, and they can create a Marvel universe in film and populate it with so many of their characters who naturally exist together. I think an 'Avengers' film is a very exciting prospect."

Asked about her own involvement in the summer 2011 film, she revealed that just because Hulk will be involved with "Avengers" doesn't mean she will. "That I couldn't tell you," Hurd said. "There haven't been any discussions about that."

So instead, she's thinking about a "Hulk 2" these days. "When I think of all the many, many, many villains in the Hulk universe, we've now done the Abomination, so wouldn't it be great to tackle the Leader?" she beamed. "It's a completely different type of cerebral villain, which would give the movie a terrific new take on the character."

And even if "Hulk 2" doesn't come along until 2012 or beyond, the wait wouldn't be a concern for Hurd, who once took 12 years between the second and third "Terminator" films. "You know what? You never give up on something that is worth doing," she promised. "General audiences responded really well [to 'The Incredible Hulk'], and so we look forward to having the opportunity to do it again."

Can't wait!!! Hopefully Norton comes back and Hulk being in the Avengers movie will generate more interest in the character. Again I reiterate for my tastes this film came in right behind The Dark Knight as the best film of the summer and hope all involved with Incredible Hulk return for the sequel:rock:rock

I finally saw Incredible Hulk last night and it was better than I expected. I'm not a big fan of the Hulk, but I like the way they handled him in the movie. Not really a good guy, but not a bad guy either. I will definitely see the sequel, but first I'm looking forward to him in Avengers.

Sounds good.

I don't think Inc Hulk was as bad as most people thought it was. The major problem this movie had was that people kept comparing it to Iron Man which was just about perfect. Iron Man "raised the bar" so high that expectations for Hulk were just too high.

The movie was great but not perfect like Iron Man.

Really? I thought Hulk was a lot better than IM. Don't get me wrong, IM first 3/4 were fantastic, but the climax and the ending I thought got really dull, run of the mill comic book movie stuff. Hulk's climax was perfect, action packed and thrilling. That just sounded really perverted :lol

Anyway, different strokes for different folks, but IMO Iron Man was far from perfect, but I do agree with you that Hulk was compared too much to IM and I think for many, IM was more fresh and lighthearted than Hulk. I just thought Hulk rode that perfect fine line between fun and having depth.

Place IM and Hulk together in Avengers movie then we can compare.. :naughty

I'm always confused about the Eric Bana release then the Edward Norton release, two hulks both Marvel and lil time between them both...

Sounds good.

I actually thought the Hulk was better than IM. It had a lot more action and things blowing up. People liked IM cause he was shiny. Hulk will take care of that in the Avengers.

I think after the Avengers movie, people will definitely want to see more of the HULK! :rock :rock

SWEET!!
I want to see the Leader against the Hulk!
Now we will need a Leader PF.:)
