Disney usually overspends on there flicks. I mean i loved john carter, i think it was great but a 300 million budget? i mean it had amazing effects and scale but i never saw that was correct.

And now this bloated epic

I love the new designs. They're a different interpretation, and that's okay. Frankly, I like the fact that the Ranger is wearing the suit. It fits with the idea that John Reid spent some time in, and became acclimated to, an urban environment, and thus, he adopted the wares of said area. Tonto's design is steeped in Native American culture, so, at least it's authentic.

...now, here's hoping that I can get them on my shelf in 2012. Go Hero ought to get some licensing going with Classic media, and make some more, well, classic interpretations as well. :lecture

To Native Americans, I can imagine that "white man speak with forked tongue" type of accent would be just as offensive.

Most definitely. But that aside, I fail to see how this even remotely looks good:

Doesn't really look like anything. It doesn't strike me in any positive or negative way. It just is.

I actually kinda like Tonto with the painted face and bird on his head, which I assume is meant to be some sort of spirit animal. The Lone Ranger on the other hand looks super boring. Lose the mask and he's essentially just Will Kane from High Noon.

I wish the Ranger's coat and vest were a lighter blue instead of Navy. It almost looks black. The red bandana/scarf is also a little too dark as well. Other than that, I like his look. I got the 9" scale Lone Ranger and Silver when I was about 4. It's literally one of the first toys I remember having. If Hot Toys makes a 1:6 Ranger from this film it's a must-own for me (though I'd MUCH prefer a classic TV Lone Ranger, of course).

So it's OK for Johnny Depp to play a Pirate, a Scottish, an English man, a Gypsy, and he already played a Native-American, but it's not OK for him to play "Tonto"? :dunno
If anything people should be offended by the name "Tonto" itself...

And it's funny how a lot of people praised RDJ for playing a black dude are now complaining about JD playing a Native again! :lol

Try again.

Ha, I remember watching the 1982 Lone Ranger movie on the big screen as a double feature with Wrath of Khan. I remember thinking it was pretty violent and intense especially when all the rangers get gunned down by the machine gun in the ravine.

I haven't sought it out since then because I assume I would be greatly disappointed to watch it again as an adult. :lol
