Wow just read the whole thread ...A lot of f'n haters here...IMO if you dont like appreciate Sideshow doing a character like that you're a Marvel poseur, A wanna be Marvel Collector.A caca. Some of You know 5 super-Heroes and a couple X-men and you call themselves big Marvel Fans....Some here collect Marvel cause they think the movies are cool and the pieces are hot on the after market..then when a character they never heard of gets produced, they become angry at Sideshow....:google

Man-Thing was actually created even before DC's Swamp-Thing...He's always been part of the MU and is actually not that much of an obscure character.. he's a visually stunning character and his sculpt will be probably amazing...I bet the guy at Sideshow had a blast making him, this is right up their Horror roots..:rock

Thanks sideshow for giving some real comic fans something different.

Just because a character has history with Marvel or even had their own comic 30 years ago, doesn't mean that all of us necessarily want to shell out $250+ on a statue of it when we have no interest in the character and it wouldn't fit into any display theme. ROM, Killraven, and Shang-Chi all were popular during the 70's, should they be made also? (I admit that ROM would look pretty cool)

It is easy for you to sit and mouth off against fans who are disappointed when your personal favorite Hulk has so many items released from Sideshow (2 PFs, Abomination PF, 2 dios). I have collected comics for over 20 years, mainly X-Men but when I was in school I bought Punisher and Guardians of the Galaxy also, so I would consider myself a real comic fan.

Look, Man-Thing looks stunning so far, I can't argue with that. And I do think it is cool that Sideshow is producing older characters. The problem is that in the PF/Comiquette format alot of fan favorites are missing and the X-Men line has been greatly ignored. Since Thor, Sideshow has been very odd with their choices (well, Namor was a good choice but a horrible sculpt). Longshot was one of my favorite X-Men as a kid, but that doesn't mean I would want him and all his mullet goodness before Cyclops.

I've read this argument several times now and the solution is simple...DON'T BUY IT!!

Let those of us that like variety and daring character choices enjoy it! This shows me that Sideshow isn't afraid to step out of bounds and do something different and gives me hope for other characters I thought I'd otherwise never see.

Couldn't agree more.

Don't like what you see on TV? CHANGE THE CHANNEL.
Don't like what your hear on the radio? TURN THE DIAL.
Don't like what a company is selling? DON'T BUY IT.

Simple solutions.

The man does have a point (I totally disagree with the "mouth off" bit!)... but then again so does Shai. While SS shouldn't pander [to the mainstream character fans] and churn out piece after piece potraying only fan favourites -- the lesser known characters deserve a shot too -- I also do not think it's fair to say that anyone that hasn't heard of Man Thing or similarly obscure characters isn't a true fan. Even people that collect these pieces based on the feature-lenght DVDs or theatrical releases alone, or that started collecting/reading comics only a few years ago, can be just as passionate about this hobby as the grey-haired ones amongst us that have collected for 30+ years :monkey3

I remember reading Man-Thing when I was wee... frankly, as a kid, the horror-elements didnt really appeal to me then, and they still don't appeal to me now. Infact I much prefered DC's Swamp thing comics and loved the original movie release (the sequel is pretty awful though, and is almost like a B movie, try watching it again!!! :horror).

That said, I totally respect how much effort SS must have put in making this piece, especially after Bowen set the bar so high with his attempt. Man Thing fans deserve to see their character and if we all profess to be true fans, the least we can do is not slag the character so badly -- even before seeing the full release -- that these fans may actually end up cancelling.

Some folk are disappointed the mainstream characters got overlooked in favour on Man Thing, but someone here said, and I agree, than SS are in this for the long haul... with a little patience I'm sure we'll see the characters we want, certainly the more mainstream ones. Heck, maybe I'll even end up seeing Silver Sable!! :naughty:naughty

Just my thoughts...

:dunnoI still don't understand were the bashing comes from... so SS made something you don't want.

Damned if you do and damned if you don't. SSC made a lot of heavy hitters up first and were being compared and slammed to Bowen for not going deep into the MU. Then they do more modern character (X-23, Modern Mystique) and were slammed because it wasn't character A, B or C. Then they go real old school with Man-Thing and get slammed for that. Do the X-Men need to be represented? Yes. Does anyone actually think that they are on the short list? If you nail all the heavy hitters first then you are left with B and C levels to continue the lines and they die. If you do too many B and C people worry about never getting A level superstars. While I've nailed SSC a bunch of times for their choices in the grand scheme its the variety that we've been asking for and for a lot of you it'll be a break for the wallets. For me though it'll be a kick ass piece that I can't wait to PO and I'm already wondering what is next.

You know what Homer Simpson would say right?

But I lost my remote and my arms are too short to reach the TV!

But turning knobs and pressing buttons is HAARD.

If the company is going to go through all the trouble of advertising thier product the LEAST I can do is BUY it!

Again the sculpt will prolly be awsome and its great that Sideshow id doing obscure characters........but we already know they do obscure characters

Negative zone spidey
abomination
Namor
cloak

so at this point do people really want a Man-Thing? NO! We just want characters that get us excited about collecting and this just doesnt do it.

One thing I dont doubt is it will be extremely detailed and a fantastic sculpt. I will order one but dont know what I will do when the time comes and there are other releases that are catching my eye and money much more.

Right on dude....same group of people who felt that Namor shouldn't be made. That piece had some problems, but the character was certainly as legit as any.

3 step program for haters -

1. Buy this

2. Read it.

3. Acknowledge that Man-Thing rocks

Hmm I have to assume that he is a member of the notorious "They" group. You know...as in the They that people speak of when the they is not specifically indicitive of any particular group or association. For example "They say he who laughs last laughs best" or They say collecting is addictive".

Yes based on the use of an ambiguous "We" I can only assume he is refering to the "We" that the rest of us know as "They". We (we the rest of us, not We the They) should watch him closely because these days "They" do some pretty crazy things!

So wait....the Man-Thing likes to upset the natural balance of a delicate ecosystem by preventing an instinctual predator from getting a meal, thus protecting the weaker species and ultimately dooming a large variety of life forms to extinction? Damn..Man-Thing is a badass!

I agree to a point, but simple recognition or understanding of a character doesnt warrent spending 100s of bucks on a statue. There are a number of people that seem pretty sure they will be buying Man-Thing, and I am sure some will! I have a feeling though, that when Man-Thing comes out the cancellation rate will be through the roof because collectors will be spending thier money on a more "desirable" charater.

Also, Man-thing was released 2 months before Swamp thing... he got gyped out of an 80s TV series IMO!

i will order and will not cancel this one,if the rest of the sculpt is anywhere as good as the preview then i will gladly spend money on him, also he has the horror element going for him.:bananawhich i am partual to.

Hey I don't know about you, but I'd buy a comic where Man-Thing fought a mystically enhanced Charles Darwin over this very issue.

Thank you for doing my thinking for me... it was a great burden on me and now that stress is gone. Please let me know what WE will be buying next...
