Re: Star Wars live action series-Jon Favreau's THE MANDALORIAN

I'm ok with The Mandalorian being a new character. Boba and Jango will always be among my favorite characters, but with how awesome this show is looking - The Mandalorian could easily catch up to them after a couple episodes.

The one that sticks out like a sore thumb is the Rian Johnson trilogy. I don't mean to start yet another TLJ debate, but how the hell can that guy have been given free licence on another SW project? It's a massive risk for Disney to back him when they have so many other cool projects going on. I hope to God they freeze the guy out.

His project was even was announced November 2017, a month before TLJ came out.

“We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”

"creative force" :lol Look at what he did with the almost "blank canvas" of TFA.

Not even getting into what it does to Luke's character, it starts with a 'momma' joke, Leia Poppins, Rose, Holdo, big alien tittays getting squeezed, Canto Bight, Benicio del T-T-T-Toro, "your Snoke theory sucks", "salt" and other nonsense, the chase is basically 'Fury-Road-in-Space-but-boring', then it ends with a wet fart. It's also the longest movie in the saga.

The ending of TFA with the build up of music and Luke's reveal made you want to see what happened next. There was still hope.

Rian took that and

He really did subvert my expectations. I foolishly expected a good movie from him.

Dude I hate the cold and i’m super stoked for spring but winter 2019 can’t come fast enough now lol

Hopefully by fall 2019 i’ll be living in LA I rather die in an earthquake while stuck in traffic than shovel snow again in 10 degree weather lol

How dafuq you tolerate Minn is beyond me!

It's not the earthquakes that kill you in L.A.:monkey3

Its sad when your glorious past starts to dry up and die.

Your world dies before you do.:lecture

No Fett, no clone, no pun. It's Pedro. They're paying good money for Pedro Pascal, they're not going to hide his face behind Morrison CGI.

Is he currently any bigger than Karl Urban or Hugo Weaving was when they did Dredd and V for Vendetta?

I don’t need for Pedro to show his face, especially if they’re keeping him as mysterious as they seem to be doing. I’d be fine without ever seeing his face clearly except for shadows here and there are fine though. But if they do show his face, I won’t throw a fit either.

I'm just going to say he's Boba Fett. If they don't call him that then I'll just assume Fett assumed a new alias after the Sarlacc. There that settles it, lol.

Can you imagine if his high-level target for the season is Boba Fett!!! :panic:

Then Fett kills the Mandalorian and infiltrates their group! :lol

But the target will probably be a Jedi.

You just know they’re keeping a few big secrets.

I thought this was set 15 years after ROTJ but it’s 5 I was mistaken.

P.S. The Mandalorian looks *awesome!*

The sad truth is even if Rian hits a huge home run with his series, it will never be recognized as too many disgusted fans have a hard on for bashing the poor guy at every turn.

They really should spend more time bashing Lucas for selling to Disney and making the PT.

Not to mention because he keeps defending Jar Jar to this day.

Am I the only one in the flaccid-for-RJ camp?:dunno

I contemplated making a "Flaccid for RJ" shirt for Celebration in the same style as the "Vote for Pedro" one but I couldn't attend.:(

To be fair, the guys hate hasn’t exactly been undeserved. Compared to other directors who get flack for disliked movies and stay under the radar, Rian and Disney folks are not without fault with how they’ve “fired back”. I don’t care either or but I do see how both sides aren’t backing down on their stances and that’s cool and all, but not if you’re trying to get butts in seats for your movie.

Such a sad tale. I'm sure he'll dry his tears on the oodles of money he is fleecing Disney for. :lol

Wait until they do the South Park episode where RJ has Luke down in the same way Spielberg and Lucas had Indy.:lol

Have fun swallowing the soyness from the ST, you're going to need it.

I could pretty much use your own words against you, "disgusted ST fans bashing the SW creator".

Leave it to Rian for creating a movie so terrible that Jar Jar is amazing in comparison.

My point was that the hate he gets for his SW film, is basically for that same stuff Lucas does and did, and continues to do.

However , the OT fan base sees him as an untouchable God for basically one film. His record of making SW stupid and aweful is much MUCH worse than anything Rian has done. (Or Disney for that matter)

But , It doesn’t matter to many folks , because they cannot see past the hero worship they have for GL.
(And the belief that nothing new is good and everything old is great)

Let me tell you a harsh truth , GL doesn’t give a damn about what you think about his SW. I will take it further, GL really doesn’t care all that much about SW in general. His ultimate goal after the success of the OT was to create a film company that specialized in revolutionizing special effects. His goals have always been to use SW to further his place in cinema history by creating a new way of filmmaking. (And the money and notoriety that comes from that of course.)

In general GL is a pretty terrible film maker, based on his actual films. The only films he has done that were any good were when his was restrained by a studio , or by the fact he had to collaborate with others.

George Lucas:

1. Created the OT and changed pop culture forever
2. Created Indiana Jones
3. Has never lashed out at 50% of the fanbase

The day that RJ approaches achieving even one of those things is the day I'll consider cutting him the same slack as Lucas.
