But that's me, I am starting to find this contemporary culture of constant outrage within pop culture fandom to be quite exhausting now.

That's the culture on the internet. I don't particularly like it either, especially when people crow about how horrible something is before its even seen. But YouTubers have created a entire culture of people that will believe their opinion or third hand rumor is true just to profit off the clicks and views. I miss the days of people seeing a movie and forming their own opinion after, instead of going in with a chip on their shoulder based off rumors from the internet.

So I went ahead and reactivated D+ and just watched the first episode.

On the non-spoiler side of things: very swashbuckling, refreshingly lighthearted after the excellent but dour 'Andor' -- I like both approaches and feel there's room for both. I found most of the production value and design to be excellent, and appreciated the retro sci-fi feel, the fantasy flavour, and visual nods to McQuarrie.

On the spoiler-y front:

LOL ... burn in heck uncomfortably, Filoni. One episode in and we get your goddamn Hyperspace Whales. Good god, it's cartoon time.

IG-11 ... fan favourite, convenient side quest and Disney doubling down on Babu Frik's merchandising -- I mean race -- 'oh look, Grogu lurves them!' Buck nekkid hubris and greed from The Mouse. It's true, all of it: no one's ever really gone. :chase

Yet again we have wildlife in Star Wars getting murdered. Mandalorians are pretty stupid. They could have avoided most or all of those fatalities and injuries if they'd just retreated to the sky and cave instead of fighting it ineffectively with their nearly useless armaments.

Or you know, chosen waters that weren't inhabited by aggressive predatory Kaiju.

But I get that they needed a reason for Din to make a big entrance and be allowed to speak, given his apostate status.

I loved the pirate dogfight. That was just pure fun.

Is anyone ready to contact child protection services regarding the murder and mayhem Grogu witnesses on a weekly basis?

OK start I suppose. Felt slightly rushed, almost like a prologue to set up the bigger story of this season.

Hopefully with this episode and the BoBF Mando episode out of the way, the story can flow better for the rest of the season.

Hmmm. Reading some of these comments, I think I'll stick to my plan of waiting for a bit so I can watch the episodes 2 at a time.

To be fair, both things can be true. Sometimes fan outrage is disproportionate and ridiculous, but there's a lot of thoughtless product being pushed for the sake of 'content' that simply isn't well done. Expensive, yes -- but not well done or respectful of source material. It's a fine line when it comes to pulp-y entertainment that was never meant to be high culture, but nonetheless there is a line.

Like what you like, of course. I like all kinds of objectively bad stuff.

Oh yeah, I agree. I am referring to the fact that it is now almost a predetermined mindset or requirement within pop culture fandom to hate something or to overreact negatively to things. Everything is crap and has to prove to me otherwise.

I don't just take everything that is fed to me. Nor do I expect everyone to like everything that is released. I greatly dislike the sequel trilogy for multiple reasons, but I have enjoyed most other things that Disney has released in the Star Wars canon.

Every time a piece of news or a trailer for something is released, I could almost bet the mortgage on the fury that will follow. Regardless of whether said news/trailer objectively deserves it.

Felt Saturday morning cartoon, part episode of the Muppet Show, not necessarily a bad thing. And as always the Old episodic Kung Fu TV series, which reminds me Favreau and I are about the same age.
I agree there is room for both this and Andor. Love the character and world enough, speaks to what a great U. Lucas put out there.

Definitely would have benefited from having episode 2 to watch. It's only a 30 minute episode too.
Yeah when I found out it was a short runtime episode, I thought I'd probably just wait for episode 2 and watch them together. But then, now it's here and available to watch, I thought screw it, might as well watch it later.
From what I've read here though, short runtime, not bad but not that great for a season premiere, I'm back to waiting for next week.

As to those somehow still pining for Marshal Cara Dune's return or acknowledgment, she got a quickly uttered yet clear as day send off.

Great start to S3…Faveru did his job…he left me interested ..eventhough it was all over the place 😆

It bothered me that Mnado left his cockpit open in the rain and just walked away. Dude. You're gonna come back to a big gross puddle to sit on.

Overall I was unimpressed. The stakes feel very low. The urgency of the first seasons are gone. The emotional weight is gone too. And do we really need to hear Grogu coo like Maggie Simpson every time he's onscreen? That was already old years ago.

Confused about one thing…Creatures stuck in light speed:eek:
It's from the cartoons.
Some Filoni nonsense, time/space navigating space whales, and his (now Chekhov's gun) way to introduce time-travel/ other dimensions into the live action SW U. and explain how to bring Ezmo (who didn't yet also did exist during ROTJ) back, and tie this all back to his characters.
Who will probably all show up by season finally to tie into Ahsoka show.

They are letting you know, it's all-in with the cartoons.
