Morgan, congratulations! You almost got them.
I don't think the Leia scene made many angry- I think it was just so laughably incoherent as a concept that I can't even believe it was filmed. There are SO many other ways to show Leia's acumen with the force, the least of which is surviving in SPACE. And then essentially flying through that space, before opening an airlock which SHOULD pull everyone else into the void...but no, that doesn't happen, the movie just cuts away
The issue isn't the scene itself- the issue is what it represents. Going into space without a breathing suit or being a literal droid leads to death- that's a rule everyone knows. It's stated multiple times in these movies, visually and through dialogue. So when you screw with that rule, as an audience member, you now have no idea what the stakes are in any particular scene because the writer can just decide to not abide by any rules at all. It completely pulled me out of the movie, just like Luke throwing the lightsaber over his head, or so many other lines and scenes included in that misbegotten mess of a movie. The Leia flying scene is not at all something I'd bring up as a main point in a TLJ criticism, but it is such an easy target because it represents so many of the problems with the movie.
No matter how bad these shows get, TLJ will always sit at the lowest of lows for me.
