I don't think the Leia scene made many angry- I think it was just so laughably incoherent as a concept that I can't even believe it was filmed. There are SO many other ways to show Leia's acumen with the force, the least of which is surviving in SPACE. And then essentially flying through that space, before opening an airlock which SHOULD pull everyone else into the void...but no, that doesn't happen, the movie just cuts away :lol

The issue isn't the scene itself- the issue is what it represents. Going into space without a breathing suit or being a literal droid leads to death- that's a rule everyone knows. It's stated multiple times in these movies, visually and through dialogue. So when you screw with that rule, as an audience member, you now have no idea what the stakes are in any particular scene because the writer can just decide to not abide by any rules at all. It completely pulled me out of the movie, just like Luke throwing the lightsaber over his head, or so many other lines and scenes included in that misbegotten mess of a movie. The Leia flying scene is not at all something I'd bring up as a main point in a TLJ criticism, but it is such an easy target because it represents so many of the problems with the movie.

No matter how bad these shows get, TLJ will always sit at the lowest of lows for me.

My thoughts when I saw Leia in TLJ was "Now that is Anakin's daughter". I was surprised and continue to be surprised at the hyperbolic hysteria that this scene created. Just my opinion.
I had no problem with it either, as I could accept that her latent force powers somehow protected her (plus the fact the SW universe has always been portrayed as a more mystical place than the hard-scifi world of Trek), but I certainly wasn't surprised that other fans would have an issue with it.

Like so many things it was the execution for me. I just thought it looked goofy and also took too long. Star Wars has to strike such a delicate balance; you'll accept all kinds of ridiculous content, happily suspending disbelief and than that *one thing* comes along and blows down the whole house of cards. :lecture

And then you're all "Man, the Internet HAS TO HEAR ABOUT THIS!" and it's hours of your life gone.

I don't remember the entire scene (or most of the film) anymore, but yeah ...
It completely pulled me out of the movie, just like Luke throwing the lightsaber over his head,
See, I would have bought that if it were Luke acting like an enigmatic and weird old sage to test Rey's character, similar to Yoda clowning Luke in ESB. But nope.

Word.

This is so true.

Its like how about ten pages back, Christbh posted that offical poster of Babu Frik's family reunion and YOU KNOW WHAT, THAT IS IT!!!!!!!! just the sight of those things, man I tell ya, its like a fuse went off in my head and all my Star Wars grievances surged to the forefront. I was triggered. Joking, but also triggered.

Im over it now, but it just goes to show how just the wrong one little detail can really set ppl off.

I think what set me off worse than anything in TLJ was not Leia, but Laura Dern in that giraffe necked evening gown playing General on a Star Destroyer or whatever it was. A general. In an evening gown. On the bridge of a Destroyer.

Get off my screen.

The immediate next thing my son watched after JW4 was the Mandalorian liberation of Nevarro from the 20 pirates to save the town of 100 people….

This was my son…

Where the 100 survivors casually walk about 50 yards out of town (in full view of the pirate commandship) where they immediately find a convenient overhang of rock perfectly sized to shelter 100 survivors so that they can "make camp" (ie stand around enjoying the view) for a whopping 7 minutes until they casually walk back to town (again in full view of the pirates) so that they can "save" the overwhelmed (??) force of Mandos that is allegedly the most feared death squad in the galaxy. :slap :lol

They should have named this episode "Revenge of the one-handed Tatooine Karens" lol.

OMG I just noticed that when the initial commandos landed it took 4 of them to take on just 5 pirates!!!!

One commando should be able to take on 20 pirates on his own!

It took 4 just for 5!!!! :slap

What bad ***** they can take out 1 pirate on their own now that is instilling fear lol

"We only have the last few pirates outnumbered 2 to 1 but our miniguns and beskar are having no effect! Where are the women and children when you need them?? Help!!!"

Season 1 Mando cleared out an entire Imperial safehouse all by himself. Season 2 Fett laid waste to two entire transports of Stormtroopers. BOBF Fett and Mando took on an army that was in possession of two building sized super droids. This was just pathetic. And right on the heels of JW no less, lol.

I heard this was covered in some new canon books too. I haven't read them personally, but from what I read:
1. The Empire was so far reaching that there are thousands of systems under their control even after Palpatine was defeated.
2. The New Republic did not want to become just like the Empire (which forcefully took over Separatist worlds after the Clone Wars), so they allowed these worlds independence provided they are demilitarized.
3. The New Republic again over-corrected over what the Empire did and demilitarized almost completely. This is why in the ST they only had a small fleet left.
4. The same people running the New Republic are the same people that ran the Empire (same rich elite) so while there were policy changes under Mon, much of the attention still went to the core worlds leaving the mid rim and outer rim less supported.
5. This lack of military power and support lead the mid and outer rim relatively unprotected (as shown here in Mandalorian). The pirates were actually funded by sympathizers of the Empire to justify the funding of a new military that would become The First Order.

It's a plausible turn in the story IMO. Again, this is only from what I've heard from friends who read some of the books.

I'm always happy to find out that F&F in fact are better educated than the peanut gallery, and know more or less what they are doing. Like when I found out the bird babies are supposed shriek hawks and sported as a symbol by some of the Mandos. 👍 As far as the New Republic over-compensating - yeah, that makes sense. It happens in real life. You get charities after a disaster, for instance, begging people not to send any more STUFF, they get overwhelmed, when what they REALLY need is just basic cash to pay for medical supplies.

For all my whining:lol, I'll be lined up to watch the next episode. Saw some rumor vid where supposedly the Ahsoka show is supposedly going to overtake Mandalorian as the D+ "flagship show" which *&^% me off, since I find Ahsoka dull and tiresome. I know I am outvoted on that, but Luke wasn't my favorite either. Tho suspect a lot of the interest is people hoping for a really great Thrawn. (I think a lot of the Rebels series👏 tho uneasy about continuing it since the ending IMO was kinda cool, leaving it open ended).

Am invested in Din D'jarin's arc. I'd rather see him pair up with Boba and Fennec again and kick some #ss than a bloat-fest that rockets along stuffing as much in as possible :horror o_O. Meanwhile, I'll just say watching the N1 flit through space is a thing of beauty. I need it.😁 The space shots have been awesome. :love

Unite them in criticism i mean. Season 3 will unite everyone criticism of the show.
Am willing to give Favreau especially the benefit of the doubt. He's the man who actually made an entire sequence of someone testing their armor (IM1) fascinating. I loved the assembly of the N1. That kind of well-filmed lead-in makes so much feel *realistic* and IMO takes skill. And I give Filoni a lot of credit for coming up with new planets, worlds, designs - all through Clone Wars, Bad Batch, and Rebels. Lothal is still a favorite planet of mine. The few designs of Jedi temples are pretty cool IMO.

If nothing else, among the townspeople who at least had blasters, there were a couple of Jawas pointing their blasters which was hilarious. 😁
