Seemed like a soft reboot there. Okay with that if it means the the Din's adventures get back to being more episodic and away from these big overwrought, rushed "arcs". Also got the vibe that...if it needed to be, it could be the "exit" for Din...the series finale. Buys the house outside of town, wanders into the mall once in a while for photo ops with the kiddies...
(oh wait...that's already at Galleria's Edge)
What a slipshod season though. Story threads that have been teased and tweaked for the entire run of the show just tossed aside (looking at the dark saber here) and the quick, get-to-the-next-level-of-the-game story style makes one sigh in exasperation when something that could be interesting flits by. Stylistic, casting and creative choices that strain and show the committee-at-work approach to this season.
Still say that D+ should consider an anthology series for this "galaxy". There were certainly enough quick takes throughout this season that may not have enough meat on them for an entire series, but could be cool with an episode or two devoted to them in an anthology formatted show. The Mandalorian refugees, some Dark Council member exploits, Carson Teva's squadron and more could provide inspiration for that kind of series. Even revisiting Fett or Mando in an occasional episode could be cool.
It was good to see Mando kicking ass again and the "teamwork" with Grogu actually worked ok (although some of those Grogu moments looked a little goofy).
Some random notes n this finale:
Could that have been a clone of Gideon that "died"? He wasn't sporting the familiar mustache in those scenes...
The weakest issue with this entire season (but never mor apparent than this finale) was how inconsistent certain things ended up being. Jet packs only have so much fuel? Naw..you can jet all the way out of the atmosphere! Beskar armor impenetrable? Not if you're a "bad" guy, then it's like wearing tissue paper. Droid gets atomized in an explosion? No big whup, just slap on a couple spare parts and a coat of paint and just like new! An many more!
I also chuckled when the tribe ended up in the "garden" cave...was waiting for the Mando Captain to say "Can I cook or can't I?"
And sorry folks but those Prat Guards ended up looking more like the Death Troopers in the first season here..."Hey! I found these in the costume department! Let's throw 'em in here to save a few bucks!" And the parade of potential figures here was so blatant here that I was surprised there weren't "order now" banners flashing across the bottom of the screen. Grogu/IG mech-suit set? Check. Gideon Iron Man Armor figure? Check. Refugee Mando Captain and sidekick? Check. Bo Katan with frisbee, dark saber and "battle damaged" armor? Check. Mando with white jetpack, weapons from hallway fight in diecast armor? Check. Beskar Imperial Troopers? Check. I'm sure I missed some...
Was very much okay with this finale not having the almost obligatory parade of cameos and scenes leading into "the next big show". This left it in such a way that if one wanted to tune out now, that would leave it with the Din story pretty much done. So hat's off to Fav for that at least.
