the thing is that ebay allows you the ship outside ebay/paypal, all you do is manually put the tracking #, there is no way to know what address the item was shipped to, just the city and zip, perfect scam , send a box of condoms to a taco bell in the same city and zip , on the usps website it will show delivered, paypal releases the funds to the seller and now no claim as it show the item was delivered to your city and zip-----freggin unreal-----------------:slap:slap:slap:slap:slap

So does this only apply to the USA then? Cos my Post Code is just for me, they can put london but it needs my postcode, which is for my building only.

the main reason i put this here was, we all check feedback old member new member we all take a risk, but that is why ebay.paypal is here to solve the issue same as the courts, but this is freggin crazy as now we have to take the loss by this dump loop hole, once they know it works, it is going to get much worse----just like what happened in wallstreet-----------

Some people get their accounts stolen, others actually SELL their accounts. I was kind of surprised that I found out that their is a market for matured ebay accounts. Some can go for several hundred dollars. That was a couple years ago so I don't know what it goes for now.

That might have been the case, but I think this guy really just went off the 'deep end.' I even had his Paypal/Ebay registered phone number and spoke him on the phone a number of times. Cool as rain. After a few days of phone calls, I went to call him about the status of the package and the number was disconnected. Never heard from him again.

Feedback still means what it always meant IMO--evidence of past behavior in order to estimate future behavior. It isn't a guarantee, but you can get a good idea in the vast majority of cases. The difference with eBay's feedback now, though, is that the feedback doesn't last forever. Negative feedback disappears after awhile for some reason.

I definitely see your point and agree, in many cases, that it's a good predictive indicator and not a guarantee. But 'back then,' you could put more faith in the feedback system, IMO. Nowadays, identity theft has skyrocketed and like Rusty was saying, people even sell accounts just to lure prospective buyers. I know it's not everyone, but I do think fraud is much more prominent than it used to be and people are finding more and more ways to exploit the system, going beyond the extent of feedback.

Much thanks to the OP for posting this thread though. I had no idea about this loophole.

Though this kind of scam has never happened to me I appreciate learning about it here. Thanks! If you are prepared it makes it that much harder for them to get away with it.

Wow. I was ripped off a few months back. This ebay seller had about 5000 feedbacks with 97% . I spend $950 dollars and the item was never sent. Emailed the seller two weeks later because i didnt get my package. He finally email me back 3 days later and said he had an emergency and that he will mail it out next week. So next week came around still no tracking and not returning my emails. Now i realize that i just got ripped off. I then contact ebay for my refund. Then i received my refund notice in my email that said the seller refund my money. When i checked my paypal account there is no refund! What the f. I then check the sellers ebay and all of a sudden there were 17 other negative feedback that said the seller never shipped out their item too. He must of ripped off those people and me all at once. I was pissed off at this point he is probably in cancun spending my money. After that i called ebay and they are so clueless, they told me the money is returned. What the f. I told them the money is not in my paypal account. Then i was switch over to pay pal. The customer service finally figured i didnt get my refund. And checked why and found out the seller had no funds in his account. NO SH$$$T . He probably gone and left town , with at least $10,000 dollars from everyone. Sorry for the long story but i had to share my experience about ebay. The good news is i won the case, the bad news is the seller left town. But this looks like a new scam that will work, i have to admit damn smart thiefs.

see. this is what i'm talking about. your problem was that you bid with a seller who had 97% of 5000 feedbacks. that means he had at least 150 neutral or negative feedbacks. why would you attemt to do a $1000 transaction with somebody with that many shady deals? i just don't get it. then people come here and start threads about it looking for sympathy. i would never do a transaction with somebody like that.

I had checked his feedback in the past year he only had 2 neutral and 2 negative , and he had fix the problem with either replacement or refunds. But people could turn bad quick when they are in debt no matter how good thier feedback is. It is very easy to be bad and hard to stay good.

:lol:exactly::goodpost:

People get scammed by sellers with feedback of 100% and tons of feedback over a long duration of time. It's a crap shoot regardless.

:lol @ buying anything from a 0 feedback seller.

I did it and got a brand new Hot Toys Rocky III for $200 shipped. I will never do that again though.

The address thing doesnt make sense to me.I thought that was the reason why the seller is supposed to ship only to a confirmed paypal address... to confirm they actually shipped to the buyer.

These stories scare me I will not trust ebay unknown sellers anymore unless Ebay starts doing something about it.

thats excalty what i told paypal, there answer, no all we check if the seller ships outside the ebay/paypal system is the tracking # the seller provides and on usps website it would show delivered to the city and zip that is all the proof the they need.

see, no where did i say that you can't get scammed by someone with 100% feedback. i merely stated that if you're gonna deal with somebody with 150 negative feedbacks, then don't be surprised when the transaction goes south. a lot of common sense can be applied to avoid a lot of the "i've been scammed" threads on this board. this so called "new" scam isn't new at all. payapl usually needs proof of tracking to avoid a paypal claim. i've heard of people shipping empty boxes with tracking numbers to get out of paypal claims. so this shipping to a different address is nothing new really.
