yeah but if Ebay is saying your buy is protected I would thought is worth to take the risk.... its all Ebays fault.

thats excalty what i told paypal, there answer, no all we check if the seller ships outside the ebay/paypal system is the tracking # the seller provides and on usps website it would show delivered to the city and zip that is all the proof the they need.

see, no where did i say that you can't get scammed by someone with 100% feedback. i merely stated that if you're gonna deal with somebody with 150 negative feedbacks, then don't be surprised when the transaction goes south. a lot of common sense can be applied to avoid a lot of the "i've been scammed" threads on this board. this so called "new" scam isn't new at all. payapl usually needs proof of tracking to avoid a paypal claim. i've heard of people shipping empty boxes with tracking numbers to get out of paypal claims. so this shipping to a different address is nothing new really.

but receiving empty boxes should be easy to prove... as far as i know every package is/should be weighted and registered on the tracking site...sure they still can send useless heavy stuff anyway...

I dunno is it just me or should you only buy from sellers with a lot of positive feedback??? Why should we say ____ ebay for an obvious scam, maybe not obvious to you, but 0 feedback?

Ebay might suck because of it's FEES, but the whole system was built on trust, and the majority of people wanting to do what is right.

I wouldn't suggest it for the small amount, but you could threaten the seller with legal action if they do not send the item or a refund. Paypal and ebay have thier personal information which you can request.

It sucks that people get scammed, but to me it's real simple:

1)Don't deal with sellers/purchasers with 0 feedback EVER

2)Use Credit card through PAYPAL only

3)if you pre-order/pay something that is over the window of filing a claim you are at the mercy of unscrupulous people (check with a sellers/buyers feedback--past behavours = future behavours)--only po with trusted sellers--obvious thru' feedback and length of time belonging to EBAY.

4) don't hound people with excessive e-mails, CHOOSE your words carefully and BE courteous.

I have used EBAY to sell and purchase/po for several years, never been scammed.

If a seller sends something to me by an untrackable method or where the option of tracking was not used....and I never receive the item - does that mean I'm SOL?

Only rule you need to follow is use a credit card.


File a fraud claim and they can reverse it for you. Paypal is at the mercy of credit card companies like sellers are to paypal.

My paypal only has my credit card attached. But what if I happen to pay for an item (that I never receive) using money in my paypal account from a previous sale? Can my credit card company do anything about that?

Sometime ago I bought a PS3 game. it was never delivered and I tried to contact the seller but he never replied...I told Ebay and I got my money back. It took around 2 months but I got it. The only difference with this case was that there wasnt a tracking number submitted.

No.

When you have a PP credit balance, periodically transfer it to your bank account.

When you win an item on eBay, select your credit card as the payment source. Then you can use your credit card's protection.

Its been 7 days and I have contacted him twice to ask what the deal was.Do I just relist the item or do I have to do something else.Also lets say he decides he wants to pay after I relist the item can he give me negative feedback?

Thanks for the response. Though actually I just remembered the particular transaction I'm worried about did appear on my recent CC bill so PP must have extracted the money from there.

Hopefully I'll receive the item on monday but I'm getting a bad feeling about this one. I don't know why it wouldn't have arrived last week.

No it isn't all Ebay's fault. You can't take these risks just because you think Ebay will back you up every time. For the most part, Ebay does a terrific job protecting its buyers and sellers. We hear a lot of complaints and bad scenarios from people, but that's because no one shares their good experiences. For every bad experience there are a thousand good ones. It just so happens that you made a stupid choice and unfortunately got burnt for it.

But people shouldn't turn around and insult Ebay or Paypal because of this. That's why this is a loophole: because it is not intended to be possible. Ebay didn't set up the system so people could scam you. Someone figured out a way around all the rules and managed to scam you. Don't blame the companies for that. Blame the seller and blame yourself.

Also, there is substantial risk to any form of online buying and selling. I do not know why people love to complain about Paypal or Ebay. As others have said you need to be smart with your purchases, but even at the best cases there is still potential risk. Paypal and Ebay have gone a long way as far as protection from those risks, but there is no 100% perfect safe system.

monger, you obviously haven't been scammed before. you think this is the only way to screw someone on ebay or paypal? even the most careful people can be scammed, and ebay and paypal do not take the necessary steps to protect people even further. i can't understand your bashing of the buyer even though he was naive to take his course of action. you blame the victim not the perpetrator and their facilitator?

You can try to take them to small claim court if you got the time and energy and file with your state bbb. Probably wont get much out of it but you will make ebay waste money as they need to send those expensive corporate lawyers to deal with you.

The only thing the BBB does is inform others of the scam. They won't help you get your money back. I've been through it. Don't even bother.

paying with credit card also hurts. I lost over 100 bucks one time because the payment was in USD and my credit card bills me in CDN so by the time I got refunded, with whatever extra fees and foreign exchange, I was down over 100 bucks >_<

He can give you negative feedback the second your auction ended with him. You need to file a non-paying bidder claim so you can get your final value fees refunded. Whether or not he has paid you, eBay has already charged you fees. After you file, eBay will give that guy 7 days to respond, if he doesn't, your fees will be returned. And I believe during this process or at the end of this process, he won't be able to leave you feedback. Move away, file the claim, and relist your item. It's not worth it to push something on someone who has obviously changed his/her mind. A non-paying bidder is shady in the first place right? So who knows what scams they can pull on you since they really don't want the item anymore.

So does this only apply to the USA then? Cos my Post Code is just for me, they can put london but it needs my postcode, which is for my building only.

Hopefully those in the US are using their 9 digit zipcode and not their 5 digit when buying things on eBay.
