Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

For a guy who owns a Mac pro tower, month old MacBook Pro laptop, and an iPod, and Motorola phone, what would be the use or point of me getting an iPad?

I enjoy laughing at the guys who bring them to the gym and watch a movie while. lifting

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

The thing is no one can beat Apples price right now. Just like the iPod. They have already built a huge customer base that no one is likely to touch them.
Really? The current ipad is about 10% less and about a year older so I would expect it to be less.

Driod is building a huge customer base too and this will help the Xoom plus the Xoom has pretty much everything everyone complained the ipad didnt have.

The proof is in the numbers. iPad is killing the competition. There's a good article that CNN put out just a day or two ago about it. Let me see if I can find it.

"Why nobody can touch the iPads price"

Motorola's Xoom tablet is debuting in the United States with an $800 price tag. (To be fair, the most comparable iPad is $730 -- but there's no $500 Xoom planned, and the lack of a low-end entry point will hurt Motorola.) Samsung's Galaxy Tab, with a relatively puny 7-inch screen, costs $600 without a contract.

This one is a pretty big deal. The majority of businesses are picking iPad. The number is only dropping by about 4% for 2011. Hardly a huge drop. Many hospitals and schools have adopted iPads as well.
The iPad currently constitutes some 82 percent of the business market, according to a recent survey by ChangeWave, followed by Hewlett-Packard, with 11 percent, and Dell, with 7 percent. In 2011, however, those numbers change somewhat: 78 percent of corporate buyers indicate their eye is on the iPad, followed by 9 percent each for Dell and Research In Motion tablets, 8 percent for HP, and 4 percent for Samsung’s Galaxy Tab.

So to answer your question, REALLY. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to do the research and look at the sales figures.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

It's nice, cute even, that Motorola was finally able to bring a competitor to market almost a year after the original iPad's debut. Unfortunately for Motorola, Apple hasn't been sitting on their hands all year and I expect the iPad 2 to blow away anything being sold right now.

Isn't the Xoom something like $800 too? Or $600 on contract? Yeah, that's laughable. The new Android OS and the hardware on the Xoom are definitely a step in the right direction, they just need to bring the cost down.

The Ipad is killing what competition? An oversized phone? Thats the only competition it has had really.

Give it a year now that real competition is starting to hit market and see what happens. Sure the Ipad may still out sell the other since so many people think Apple is COOL but right now they have the inferior product.

I dont see how the ipad 2 can blow it away.

Yeah the Zoom is $800 and the same speced ipad is $730. Its not over priced, they just dont have cheap version.

Compared to what? The Xoom seems like the first product to be at least on par with the iPad. Everything else is just leprechauns and unicorns until they start shipping.

Do you honestly believe some of the ____ you typed? Here read it again just to make real sure. :lol

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Is the retina display that big a difference or are we talking the whole 720p vs. 1080p arguement on a screen this size? Would it be worth waiting for that screen instead of jumping on the ipad2?

The xoom that you said is overpriced.

Yeah I believe it.

You are right the ipad will probably still out sell it, due to 2 reasons , one the first gen prices will drop big time making it cheap and there are way to many people that find everything apple does to be the greatest thing ever. If i took a crap in a bag put an apple logo on it I could sell tons.

The retina display is a pretty big deal. Hard for me to explain, check out an iPhone 4 at a store and see for yourself. However, I don't see the iPad getting a retina display this round. Could be wrong though, who knows?

Ah, now we get to the crux of the matter. Since Apple stuff is popular, there is no way it can be good. You sound like me in high school discussing music. It's on the radio? SUCKS!!!!

Nope I didn't say there stuff sucks but people will blindly buy there stuff thinking its the best option without even looking.

I got an iphone because at the time it was the best option, but will my next phone be an iphone, if I was buying now, the answer would be no.

You're trying to make sense to an Apple nuthugger man. All of us who aren't hanging on nuts know that what the Ipad offers for it's price is a rip off. Is it "cool"? Sure it is. Are all the features, or lack there-of worth $500-$750? Only a nuthugger would think so.

I corrected that for you. Thanks!

In logic, an argumentum ad populum (Latin: "appeal to the people") is a fallacious argument that concludes a proposition to be true because many or all people believe it; it alleges: "If many believe so, it is so."

What features are missing from the $500 iPad to justify an $800 Xoom purchase? 3G? I doubt many people need that. Camera? Maybe, but I'm sure that will be addressed with the iPad 2 (remember, we're comparing a year old product to one that has been just released). What else? Access to the "expansive" Android Marketplace? Yes, that last bit was a joke.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

From wired magazine on the $800 tablet.

For those who want a more fully-finished, polished experience, however, we recommend waiting for a future Android tablet -- or the iPad. The Xoom is a credible contender, but it's not quite on par with the market leader yet.

From Cnet

The bottom line: The Xoom's spec sheet is enough to make any tablet tremble, but the price is high and Google still has some work to do before its tablet software experience is as fleshed out and intuitive as Apple's.

Engadget

The problem with the Xoom isn't really about the core of the experience or the core of the hardware -- it's about the details. Too much in both the design (like those wonky buttons) or the software (like the feeling that this is all very much in beta) makes you wonder if this wasn't rushed out to market in order to beat the next wave from Apple. Regardless, there isn't much here for consumers right now. The Android Market is almost devoid of tablet applications, the OS feels buggy and unfinished, and the hardware has pain points that we find troubling. And that's to say nothing of the pricing and carrier commitments being asked of first-time buyers.

The bottom line is this isn't about Apple (nuthuggers) as Nash so politely put it. It's a simple matter of what product works and does the best job. Right now Apple is beating the competition in both price and functionality.

If you don't believe so then you are probably just an anti Apple (nuthugger) for the sake of trying to be cool or because you have some other unreasonable bias.
