played around with ipad 1 today at Best Buy. The screen on the 1st gen ipad is really really good. I don't think the retina display was necessary. It def would have jacked up the price another 150-200. I just hope BB doesn't sell out before I get there on Friday at 6 PM.
I can use my BestBuy reward zone points so if I can I'd like to buy it from Best Buy. Also they have that buy back program so when and if an ipad 3 comes with a retina display I'd like to trade in the ipad 2 with no hassle and get the new one.
For starters, the plan is fairly costly. Coverage for a laptop, netbook or tablet computer is $70. Protection for a big-screen TV selling at $500 to $1,200 is $100. For a $1,200-to-$2,500 telly, the price rises to $180, and the tab is $350 for a $2,500-to-$5,000 set. Prices were quoted from a Best Buy store last night, but you may find plans cheaper online.
To jump-start the program, Best Buy briefly offered a free buy-back policy with mobile-phone purchases. But this week the price went to $40 for a "postpaid" mobile phone selling under $350 and $60 for wireless phones priced $350 and higher.
And what do you get back?
That's determined on a sliding scale and distributed as a Best Buy Gift Card that has to be used in the store or on the company's website. The most you'll get is 50 percent of your purchase price - if you return the item within the first six months "in good working condition" and with all original parts.
By the time your computer, phone or TV is a crusty 12- to 18-months-old, the most you can get back is 30 percent of the purchase price. That drops to 20 percent in the 18- to 24-month age span before the policy expires.
Best Buy’s ”Buy Back” will be available for the iPad 2 and will guarantee a trade-in price for up to two years from purchase. “If both GSBTP and Buy Back are purchased at the same time, you will receive 50% of the price of Buy Back,” the company says.
If you use the Best Buy buyback program with a 16GB model, you will end up paying $70 so you can get a $150 gift card next year when the iPad 3 comes out. I promise you that you can get more than $80 by selling your iPad 2 on eBay the week that version three is announced. The whole concept is a joke.

okay...a couple of things I've found out with minimal research.
1. You have to pay for using your iphone as a hotspot(tethering). $20-25 per month and up to 2 gigs. If you go over an additional 1 gig is $10. Pretty much the same price as getting 3g seperate with the ipad 2.
2. The iphone 4 and ipad 2 are not 4g compatible through the apple software and according to most it won't be until 2012. You can jail break it but who wants to do that.
3. The 3g contracts are for 2 years with ATT and Verizon.
4. The no usb port and no retina display are pretty big downers. I don't have an ipad so going from no ipad to ipad 2 is a pretty good step. So trading it in for an ipad 3 is a definite when it becomes available.
So I'm still a little uncertain of which model I want or need. I know I don't need the 16 gig because that's just not enough memory. So I'm down to the 32 g with or without 3G and the 64 gig with or without 3G.
