I actually exchanged it for one of the first gen models they were still selling and got back $295 as well, between the discount, the smart cover and going from 64 to 32.
That $295 will go towards an iPad 3, which should have the retina display I was waiting for in the first place. And maybe a better camera. Lower quality than the iPhone 4 camera, but with a bigger screen. And I really didn't like the new smart cover--it doesn't protect the back at all. The magnet isn't strong enough to hold it when it's in the open position flipped around back, and with three bendy spots, it flops around and hangs loose. If you do get it to stay in place, it sticks out past the edge of the iPad, and you can't access the volume buttons that are now around the rear of the curved edge. It was designed for someone using the iPad seated at a desk, not casually holding it in their lap, etc.
For me, it felt like an incremental upgrade, and the key things that were added didn't impress me that much. So I'll be happy with an iPad 1 until they really shake things up with the iPad 3. It feels like apple just made a few tweaks to stay competitive in the market and keep the price the same. If they offer a more expensive model with a retina display, better cameras and more RAM, I'll grab one.

If anyone is looking for a good screen protector I cannot recommend Ghost Armor enough. It was very easy to install and looks great. I didn't put it on the actual screen though. I like the feeling of a naked product. So I usually install this stuff on the backs for when I set them down. Same with my iphone 4.

Let me be blunt. Zagg's is horrible. The only reason they are still in business I believe is because they are one of the few shield makers in stores. Zagg's is rubbery to the touch and has a orange peel effect that just seems off. Zagg's can also be a challenge to install.
Ghost Armor is smooth to the touch and once it sets it's crystal clear. It's also easier to install than Zagg's.

Look at the pics above. You can barely tell it's on my ipad unless you look at the corners. I would rather have that in lieu of scratched metal. That is until apple gets their new aluminum on their products that is scratch proof. They put a patent in October of last year but it isn't on their products yet.
