Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Now that you don't need to connect your iPad to a computer to backup or update, and you can access files through the cloud, it's getting to be really independent of my laptop. The iPad gets more use than my laptop on any average day.

I ended up ordering the new one after some debate, and got a shipping notice already. I'm going to keep my iPad 1 for the kids to use.

Yeah that's a good idea, the young ones love the ipad/iphone, the interface is very kid-friendly so it's a great developmental (aka silencing) tool.

It's worth getting just for the display, but since I run flash a lot and hate transferring stuff through Itunes without a workaround, I'll probably wait for the Android offerings to catch up. Still incredible how they managed to stuff that display in and kept the price the same, definitely a great push for the industry as display resolution was starting to really lag behind other advances due to blu-rays and HD res.

Too bad the LTE is rumored not to work outside the US.

I still don't understand iCloud. I still have to plug my iPad and my iPod into my laptop to sync the same stuff that's on the different devices. I was under the impression that if I downloaded something from my laptop and put it into iTunes with iCloud turned on in all devices that it would be on all devices, instead it's on none.

Hmmm never tried to download something from my Mac and have it on all. I have downloaded apps to my iPad and saw that they went right to my phone and Mac. :dunno

It just stores a record of you already purchasing it. You still have to dl it to each device.

To set up automatic downloads on your computer, open iTunes, go to iTunes > Preferences > Store, then you can check the appropriate boxes.

To set up automatic downloads on your iOS device, go to Settings > Store and flip the appropriate on/off switches

That's probably the main reason the GF and I ordered the "new iPad" (so when is Apple going to break down and call it the iPad 3? When the iPad 4 is announced?). The kids are always wanting to use our old iPad (we skipped iPad 2).

Even with two iPads, I may break down and order the Archos "Childpad" when it comes out.

That's actually a pretty neat tablet for kids. Very reasonable too!

All of that stuff is checked. I do all my downloading on my laptop because I do a lot of torrents so I was hoping there was a way to download it on my laptop, drop it in my itunes on my laptop, and have it automatically download on my ipad and ipod. It doesn't do that though. In order for me to get whatever I've just put in my itunes I have to plug my ipad into my laptop and sync it and then plug in my ipod to sync it.

Ohhhhh, you're looking for wifi syncing then: https://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-20119865-285/how-to-set-up-wi-fi-sync-for-ios-5/ The stuff I posted only applies to purchases.

Wifi syncing is a bit lame, imo, because your computer needs to be awake and and iOS device needs to be plugged in to a wall. Kinda useless, if you ask me.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Those screen protectors always end up being more of a pain in the butt than their worth. At least on the iphone I guess I should say. I just keep a cleaning cloth with me and am careful as I can be.

If the UPS guy and the USPS guy would quit talking I could start messing with me. :slap
