Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Then why are you in here other than to be an ass?

Piss of Keith. I'm free to comment if I want. I wasn't here to trash Apple fanboys like you. I made a comment on tablets in general and about how people continue to buy new stuff just because advertisers do a good job hooking people into top $$$$ items even though they do nothing you already can't do.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Are some people hooked by these advertisers? Sure, they are. For me personally I wanted an IPad for all the things my Iphone does, add the 1080P video, read a book on a bigger screen, watch video on a bigger screen, etc all on the go. Its not going to decrease how much I use my IPhone it just gives me something else to use. I will upgrade to the IPhone 5 when it comes out because of what the added features and upgrades will be. Not because of what some mysterious advertiser says but because I want to do so.

And that's all well and good. I'm just saying that it's amazing to watch people drop $600 to $1500 every year on the newest and "best". They line up to throw down tons of money of something that they already have, but this years model will download that movie .5 seconds faster and the screen is 1" bigger.

While others see the point in this, I don't. I'm nothing saying you can't do it or even that for your personal reasons you shouldn't. I just see it differently. I think it's foolish to keep spending money hand over fist on items we either already have or we have other items that do exactly the same thing. It's just my opinion on the matter and others have their opinions. That's fine. If that makes me an ass.....oh well.

Unless someone is using my money I don't care what they do with their money or the reasons they spend it the way they do. Like I said I have my own reasons and if someone disagrees that's cool but it doesn't mean a hill of beans in my decision making process.

U do have to realize coming in a thread and calling people lemmings is going to illicit a response that isn't friendly.

Not many.

I have 1 pair of Nikes, I pair on nice dress shoes, I pair of winter boots and my junky shoes I wear to work. I don't own 10 pairs of sneakers and 8 pairs of dress shoes. I have no need for all of that. I own one pair of shoes for each type of dress and that's it.

Nor should my opinion tell you how to spend your money, but do you honestly believe that if these things were not hyped to death and so trendy that people would line up to sell them out? Do other companies sell tablets that people line up for? Apple does have marketing down pat. Make a limited run, hype the hell out of it watch people sell it out creating huge demand.

As, I said the hype does get to some people. That is exactly what its supposed to do though is draw people in. As far as other companies not that I know of but I don't follow them really. People though buy Apple products though because they make really good stuff. In my years of using electronics they're the best stuff I've used.

Agreed. I've been using Apple for years not only because of how good their products are, but also because of how well Apple has treated me.

My previous Macbook Pro that I bought in the Summer of 2007 began having heating issues among other minor issues while I was still on the Apple care production plan warranty a few years back. I contacted the Apple store and they said bring it in, which I did. I only had a few months left on my warranty (which you cannot renew).

I left my original Macbook with the Apple store and they said it would be only a few days but it ended up being a full week. I didn't have a problem with them having it for so long until they called me on that weekend sincerely apologizing for the long wait and offered me one of the brand new sleeker Macbook Pros that had just come out a few weeks before I brought in my Mac....for FREE! They just felt bad for keeping my computer for so long and just offered to give me the new superior one free of charge with another 3 year warranty on the house. As I back up everything to my external HDDs, I just went into the store, picked up my brand new Mac and was on my way. I'm still on that Macbook now and have never had one problem with it. :yess:

I love Apple :love

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

But that would make too much sense.

Are you going to deny that a lot of people out there ARE lemmings? I didn't call anyone here one. I said that a lot of people are suckered in by advertising and fake product demand which they are. If you're not then good, but a lot of people are.

Apple's customer service is one of the reasons why people keep going back. Anyone that disagrees with that obviously hasn't experienced it.

Yeah, they've treated me really well in my time using their stuff.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

I'm tempted to pick up the iPad 3 but I already have my Macbook and an iPhone 4...could I really justify using the iPad on a daily basis? Hmm...

Depends on how much you take your Macbook around with you. I"m not getting one right now since the iPad 1 still works fine, but I will be buying one around xmas time.

I hardly ever use my computer anymore. Since I bought my iPad I maybe jumped on my iMac around 10 to 20 times in the past year. It was either for work or photo editing. I would say in 3 to 5 years if not sooner I will no longer own a traditional computer. It will be a tablet. Just need to wait for them to add more power and way more hard drive space.

My attitude before my missus brought one home: why bother, what does it do that my macbook and iPhone don't already do? It's an expensive gimmick Steve Jobs is trying to create a hyped demand for.

My attitude after the missus brought one home: wow, the interaction with the device is so seductive and so natural. Using this device feels like an effortless and accessible way to browse the web, read magazines/newspapers/ books, catch up on work tasks and yes, play games. Sorry Steve, turns out you were right and I did actually want this after all.

And check out what the kids are getting out of it... they hardly watch tv anymore - the iPad experience is interactive engagement rather than passive reception. The intuitive navigation and closed environment means they can pick this thing up and use it without me being so concerned that they'll access stuff that will either corrupt their minds or the device's data. They are barely 2 and barely 6. This thing is not treated as an expensive toy. The iPad offers a genuine interactive, educational experience for them if we as parents set up the device with the right apps. 9 out of 10 books I buy for bedtime stories are ebooks, browsed, purchased and delivered to the device in the time it takes for them to brush their teeth.

So I'm a convert. In my case the iPad is not an inferior computer or fancy iPhone - it is a wonderful device in its own right. I couldn't imagine living in a technologically-equipped home that didn't include an ipad.

The irony is that my missus is a luddite and I'm presumably the tech-savvy one. Despite my resistance she decided to buy the ipad after she visited some schools and saw how they were being used in the classrooms. I'm glad she did :)
