Maybe Marvel charges larger licensing fees for key characters? I have no clue, but this has been by far the most disappointing choice because I feel like it is very obscure and it ruins a KEY Marvel female. If this would have been Dark Phoenix/Phoenix, I would have been thrilled even if it was a gimpy posel. I think I will just buy the Marvel Premiere Jean Grey statue or the Bowen full-sized Dark Phoenix.

My wife bought me a CGC 9.6 Uncanny X-Men 101 about five years ago, so she knows about Phoenix. I showed the teaser to her and her exact words were, "Sex sells. They want to make the slut dominatrix for the horny comic guy from The Simpsons." :(

You sound surprised kibiishi, etc; that IS the AH appeal right? It isn't as if these are "objective" sculpts of Marvel female characters.

I am not surprised by the "objective" sculpts, not at all. I have Black Cat and Rogue preordered. The Emma Frost statue was very provacative, but she regularly dresses like that in the comics, so I can understand the statue in the line.

What I am surprised about is that they took a key Marvel character, with a huge fanbase as Phoenix, and dressed her in a very obscure outfit that briefly wore during the Dark Phoenix Saga! They didn't take Rogue and dress her in her Savage Land outfit. What they should have done was make an 'Ah' of Mystique and a PF of Phoenix; I was very impressed with the Mystique PF btw.

I agree with the overall sentiment; I'm glad it's Jean, but disappointed it's Black Queen Jean. But AH has stated all along that he really set out to make the line atypical...it started with classic Rogue and the trend continues with Black Queen Jean.

I'm actually surprised though. I remember a lot of people clammering for a Black Queen as a bookend to Emma...I somehow expected more people to be really pleased with this.

These Marvel license choices are crazy lately. I'll love to see a full pic anyways.

This is actually a mix of Adam's choices and SSC's. Remember Adam said he wanted likenesses that were different than what is being released at the time and/or something that really hasn't been released too many times before. The majority of White Queen statues have been in more modern look, so the classic styling made sense to his statement. Mary Jane was shown usually in the classic "You Hit the Jackpot, Tiger" Silver Age look so a modern styling in simple clothing made sense. Rogue was a complete departure from the norm...the only one that is classic is Black Cat.

He creates the designs and SSC signs off on them. Black Queen had to have been something Hughes himself put forward. Where SSC comes in is that Adam has said that he provides multiple designs and looks that are to his liking that Marvel agrees to but then they can be vetoed. He did say that he would have loved to have done classic Marvel Girl from the arrival look at the Mansion to the classic Green dress look....SSC or Marvel must have not agreed and wanted this instead.

Black Queen is heavy recently with Diamond, Bowen even the Marvel Legends doing futures but that is all recent....before this rush this look was pretty much ignored.

I don't collect this line any longer, sold off my older pieces but if this really looks like Adam's Jean then I'll be getting this as a standalone.

So sad, I've been waiting for the Phoenix for a very very very long time... I'm falling apart here in this last week of Oct...

You know I have been thinking since I saw this. The image is named Black Queen tease. Why would they name the image what it is while not saying it in the text?

The 31st is coming up so I am wondering if this is maybe a case of TRICK or treat?

Will be picking this up for sure. I would have prefered a Marvel Girl Jean Grey but this is not a bad choice either. Will look great with the White Queen.

Yeah I could see that, it would look nice with all the rest of the AH pieces, if it would of been Jean Grey as the Phoenix I think it could stand alone but sense I don't have any of the AH pieces (wife might get really angry with me LOL) but if I did this might be a sure pre-order for me as well...

p.s. I would really get in trouble for collecting the AH pieces...:monkey2

Yeah, I suppose she will look good with Emma, but I was hoping since it was 'Women of Marvel' and not 'Women of the Hellfire Club' that we'd see more traditional ladies. I just hope the next one isn't the last and we get to see more down the line.

I would have preferred a Black Widow or Scarlet Witch. I just hope they happen.

Hmm... dominatrix anyone. I'll PO for sure. Although I'm still on the fence will Rouge.

I will get this as I love the AH comiquettes but I would imagine the Bowen Black Queen is no longer on my wish list (I am confident that this will be a fabulous piece!).

I am with you on this Bullseye.I would have loved a Black Widow too...........

Well I can't say I'm not disappointed in the replies to this tease. With over 20 statues out there representing Jean in her Phoenix persona, I guess we thought something more unique would be appreciated bythe collectors. We thought for sure if it was a Phoenix we'd get alot of "Not another Phoenix; how un-original" comments out of the fans and collectors.

When Adam started designing this one, I don't think there were any others that featured Jean as the Black Queen aside from the small bust. We thought not only would it be cool to finally have this character, but what a great match to Adam's Emma Frost. And we thought we'd bring you guys something you didn't have a dozen of already.

As for those of you that are commenting that Adam or Sideshow went for the "S and M factor", I'm very surprised to read this. Shame on you. If you are familiar with Adam's work, then you know he always depicts his women sexy and strong, he never degrades or reduces them to purely sexual objects. And Sideshow respects the license far too much to allow that sort of non-sense. Fans may choose to see nothing but smut; but that is in the viewer's eye, and not Adam's artistic intent.

This is a classic representation of Jean Gray. This is a John Byrne costume design for goodness sake. Feel free to not like it; and feel free to not order it. But please don't say such harsh and un-true things about Adam and the guys at Sideshow. As his girlfriend, I think I'd know first, and best, if Adam was the kind of guy that would treat women; fictional or real, with such contempt.

Ultimately I'm sorry there isn't more excitement about this tease. I've been waiting so long to tell you guys about it, waiting to share my excitement about how GORGEOUS the scultp on it is, etc etc. I guess I'll just wait til the next one. :(
