As you pointed out about the previous statues - people complained - and the statues proceeded to sell out quickly, and unlike most other collectibles right now, have increased in value on the secondary market.
Unfortunately the complainers are much more vocal than the fans - that's the way it's always been. And no matter what version of Jean Grey had been done there would be complainers. Take The Mike above - Marvel Girl?
Really?
With the butterfly mask?
REALLY?
X-Factor?
You'd really prefer that over whips, corsets and capes? The idea of the line is sexy, strong women - the artists have to consider not only what incarnation of the character to do, but also what works as a stand along art piece.
And certainly an announced Dark Phoenix would have gotten far more "Oh No, not again!" complaints than the 2 or 3 that have ^^^^^ed about Black Queen character choice in this thread.
People complained about the Mystique PF not being in her traditional white outfit - but it didn't stop it from selling out PDQ.
I say bring on the obscure looks, Rogue is my favorite of the whole line and I didn't even know that wasn't her most common costume.
Ms. Marvel in her '70s midriff baring outfit with the poofy hair? Bring it on!
Scarlet Witch as a gypsy? I'm there!
Although Janet Pym in that '60s outfit would be pretty tough to make sexy - but if anyone can do it - Adam can.
So despite all the complainers - I'm sure this piece will be well received.
