Got mine up and running today. Lucky #13. Gotta say the paint job is just not good enough. The piece itself is amazing, but I just don't feel the paintjob given to the piece do it justice. Don't get me wrong, this is a rockin piece. If the proper paint job had been applied, it would be a kick a$$ piece. Between thiis and the Predalien bust, I favor the finish on the Predalien. I think the Predalien is the best piece from SS I have seen so far this year. This maquette just don't have the WOW factor like the Prealien bust has. Just my opinion. Here are the pics:

The arch reactor looks kinda plain when its not lit. Maybe someone could make a custom sticker or waterslide of the reactor parts behind the glass

I am going to keep it. I like this piece, and it does rock, but just not crazy about the paint job. But what can you do right?

I definitely hear you there. Not only that, but there's a chance you could send it back and your replacement arrives with a broken arm or something. The only way I'd send it back is if you really weren't satisified to a point where not even a replacement would be "enough."

Congrats on acquiring this one! :rock

Sorry man, but I dont understand this reasoning. Probably 70% of what you pay for to get this piece is the paint app. If your not happy with the paint or if you feel you havent got your monies worth then return it. Theirs no point in keeping something you personally wont fully enjoy. But thats how I look at things...if anything call SS and tell them your not happy with the paint app. If your set on keeping the piece then call them anyway and tell them what you really think. The least they can do is refund you SOME of your money or ALL of it. Im betting they will go with the 1st option.

The piece itself is great (pose/ size/ lights/ etc.) The paintwork unfortunately is not. I do however really want a 1:2 Iron Man along side my 1:2 t-800 full endoskeleton. The problem is all of them are pretty much painted the same way with similar finish. So either (a) I return it and have no IM which I do not want to do since I want this IM in my collection or (b) accept it and come to terms that this is probably the best Sideshow can do with this piece in terms of paintwork. I am sure I will enjoy owning it, but just not to the fullest extent. I purchase mine through a dealer so calling Sideshow will get me a kind referal back to my dealer. I had my dealer voice my concerns quite a few times and they in turn have gotten heat for it. And after the strong voices sent to Sideshow regarding the Predator bios, it seems like Sideshow really don't want to hear it as they continued cranking out bios with the less than ideal lenses. And even if they hear it, nothing much is going to change.

whats wrong with the paint app? It looks good to me :angelsmil

Orange peel effect found throughout. It is really hard to see in photos since the statue is glossy. The grease spots were used extensively to hide flaws. A little bit of grease spots give it realism but when it is used a bit too much and in places that shouldn't have them, then the true intent of the grease spots becomes apparent. But like I said before, overall, it is a rockin piece. Just not a kick a$$ piece.

Thanks for explaining turtle. Gosh that sucks, something that should not have been for such a grand piece. Really a pity. SS was so close to nailing this but the production pieces did not live up to the hype.

I'm very Jealous of the people that get to own this, i think it looks Amazing but at a 2000 price tag and to pay shipping, customs\border fees and conversion rate it would just be huge money to have this Dude in my collection!! :(

but congrats to all, it really does look GREAT!!! :D

Actually the Canadian dollar is pretty much at par with the US dollar or more. You wouldnt have to worry about the conversion....customs is another story though.

Chris

True it is....but that was always the least of my worries with something that carried a price tag like this....it's always been about the shipping and the garbage border\custom fees!!

Besides i'm trying to find a 1:1 bust first :D you'd think with all the Hate that thing got before it would be a helluva lot easier to find :lol

Why you looking for a bust?....going to repaint it?

Chris

I just got one too...

The finish is so so...

I had another issue with the piece, and I wanted some of the other guys who bought these to chime in and tell me if it is just the one I got or if this is normal: The chest light is so bright, it's hard keeping it on and looking at the statue! Even my wife complained she couldn't see anything for a few minutes after I switched the light on! Also, the eye lights are very faint and there are dark streaks running thru them?

Like many have also said, I frickin love the piece itself!

very soory, i can't wait mine for april, but your case affraid me howard .

it's strange, because sideshow work with you on star wars line, and sideshow send to you the worst 1/2 scale iron man of this line. It's not very sorious from sideshow.

I'm very curious to see your pics.

good replecement, i hope for you.

Thank you for your honest opinion Howard.

Do post the pictures and paint issues you have encountered so that others can see the sub-par paint job and do a replacement with SS if necessary.

Such a piece should not have this many issues. Its disappointing indeed.
