Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Excuse my ignorance but are they writing new material for the third film or will they add extra parts to what's been filmed before to make the story longer? Surely what's been written in the book is all they can film and the end of the book is the end of the story?

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

That could be, Dino. We're all speculating at this point. But, I don't think everything has been filmed for the third one yet.

He did mention that he was thinking of making them extended at Comic Con, but luckily he got what he wanted which was three movies, which I am happy about as it's the director's decision and not the studio's

I think it's going to be a bridge film between The Hobbit and LotR.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Everything? Has anything been filmed for the third yet?

I think they are going to film additional material to pad films two and three. He wants to tell the complete story of Bilbo across three films rather than two Hobbit movies and a bridge. That would be anti-climactic filler and a bad idea. The challenge will be making this an epic three part unified story. You don't wrap up The Hobbit with a pretty bow and then do one more movie filled with random footnotes--some fans would like to see that, but it wouldn't be a cohesive plot for a movie. All the extra stuff should be made to fit into the overarching story/plot of The Hobbit. It has to feel like a unified three part/three act story spread across three films, not one story told in two films plus an extra film with 30 random side stories crammed together without a unifying quest/plot.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

So completely new material? Nothing from the book?

We have no idea at this point since we don't know what all in the first two. Could be they do some re-editing and put some that was intended for the second film into the third, then work in what's in the appendixes. It's all guess work at this point.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

So do the actors that signed for a 2 movie deal going to get a 3rd paycheck now?

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Really excited about there being a 3rd one, means Jackson wants to make this as epic as possible methinks! :D
I really, really hope we se more familiar faces from the LOTR trilogy!:rock!

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Some theories I've read (please don't quote these theories!:rotfl Also, spoilers if you haven't read the book. Which you should have by now, it's been out 75 years!) include the first movie ending with the group being captured by elves, the second ending with Smaug's wrath/death, and the third dealing with Smaug's death, The Battle of Five Armies, and what happens afterward, with the fall of The Necromancer and such interweaving them all.

OK, cheers.:hi5:

I would guess yes, plus they'll likely be calling them back to shoot new footage and calling in some of the LOTR cast for new scenes. So Weenie might get her Viggo after all. :lol

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I'm surprised by this news... to be honest I haven't been following much of the film except for the blogs. But like others I trust PJ's judgement when it comes to the films so I'm quite optimistic that what we see will be worthy of 3 films.

There will be some I'm sure but most of it will be coming from the appendices of the lotr.

That's what it sounds like. This news is very welcomed to me as a fan of Tolkien, Jackson, and all things middle-earth.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

3 movies is indeed great news! Watching the 12 minutes of Hobbit footage at comic con was an emotional and wonderful experience so another movie will be astonishing. PJ has done something really remarkable yet again, another Tolkien trilogy! :clap

That was a pretty fun 12 mins and the stuff they showed in the last blog was pretty cool as well. I think when done this will be a set of six movies with lotr of course that will stand the test of time.

I wonder if everyone had already made it back home and PJ had to call them back up and say "sike" come on back.

They had pick ups and stuff to finish when they left comic-con so some of them would still be there at least.
