Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Very odd to switch to 3 films after so long and now so close to the release of the third film. But Jackson hasn't disapointed yet with Middle Earth, so I'm sure it will be fine. Under anyone else and it would totally scream cash-grab, which it does to an extent as is.

I think its hilarous that LotR will now have an OT and PT :lol

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I'd prefer 2 very long films, I can easily sit and watch the rings for 4 hours straight.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I don't think PJ is capable of making a sub 3 hour film anyway :lol

We'll probably get extended editions too so we could very well end up with another 12 hours of Middle Earth out of this.

:lecture:lecture:lecture I wouldn't worry about these being Tolkien-lite films. Each will still be more than packed with footage and still have extended editions for DVD/BR. :lol

I have no problems with either.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

That was a pretty fun 12 mins and the stuff they showed in the last blog was pretty cool as well.

Super fun! and so surreal to see Gandalf back in Bag End. goosebumps.

I think when done this will be a set of six movies with lotr of course that will stand the test of time.

No doubt about that. :duff

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Goosebumps indeed and maybe even a bit of misty eyes for myself.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

How about this:

An Unexpected Journey - Film 1 ends with Gandalfs departure just before Mirkwood.

The Quest of Erebor - Film 2 ends with
Smaugs death

There and Back Again - Ends it all!

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I can handle 3 Christmas movies. Always makes Christmas time all that more special :yess:

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

If in these three films they do not have a history of Moria including Morias founding after the first age to forging of the rings with Sauron(he visited and learned about the craft from Elf and Dwarf)), Durins Bane(Balrog) and the exile until discovery of the Lonely Mountain , The war of Moria, Thror's death and Dain killing The Goblin Kings Daddy etc ...even Thrain losing the last Dwarf ring of power, I will be surely dissapointed.....With three films(hopefully 3 hours each they could cover the Dwarven history..period...I'm excited!

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Some of the Dwarven background will be included for sure. The question becomes how much of it will be included.

3 films for a very short novel...It should have a massive amount of history...I cant see how they cannot...I hope they are 3 hours each too

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

If PJ uses information out of The History Of the Hobbit and The Annotated Hobbit, he should have more than enough material for a third movie, especially if he also incorporates material from the History of Middle Earth.

Well, remember they had already planned to put some material from the appendices in it. So it may be a bit before we know what exactly else they're adding to make the third film.

So were not gonna see Smaug till the 3rd movie?

I think we'll see him during the second movie, but his death won't be until the third.

I think we still see him die in the second film. That IMO is where it will end and the start will be the Battle of the five armies and what happened afterwards.

Not only that but the PT in this case will not be an embarrassment next to the OT.

Martin Freeman is just...:arwen

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Would love to see after the company parts ways especially seeing what happens to Balin in moria, would be so cool to see that set again 'un-ruined'.

I could see something involving Moria a couple times actually. Would be great for this movie and background for the lotr trilogy.
