Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I'm finishing up the EE of ROTK and I just stumbled upon the first EE addition I'm not certain I like or not, yet.

When Gandalf fights the Witch-King, something I don't recall him doing in the book, he is nearly annihilated and has his staff broken on the spot. What... the... ****? o_O

Gandalf can take a firebolt from Saruman and destroy his staff with the gift of his Maiar power, but then gets his ass handed to him in one fell stroke by the Witch-King? Just hard to swallow is all. Poor Gandalf. xD

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I first read LOTR in 5th grade. I must have been around 10 and that was 30 years ago! :horror: I've read them at least a dozen more times and each time I read them I love them a little bit more.

Legit?

Yes, that's from the hobbit annual that's out. I should have mine today.

It's the ADD of Generation Y-bother. :lecture:lecture:lecture:exactly:

Guess so. :(

Obviously in the book it's not quite like that but the witch king is very powerful none the less. It's just one of phs changes that you either roll with or not.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I wanted to read The Hobbit really bad when I was in 4th grade. I only made it to page 74. I attempted to read it several more time and each time I only made it to around page 74.

Then I was 19 (1993) I met a girl who was into Tolkien. I zoomed through all 4 books and the Silmarilion in 3 months. :lol

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I finally read through the entire Sil last year. I enjoyed most of it while some was a bit boring. Also read the children of hurin which was expanded upon what was in the Sil to which I also enjoyed. I plan to start my yearly journey though Middle-Earth on the 18th of this month. I've got a copy of the hobbit coming with the teaser poster on it and for no reason that makes sense I want to read out of that one.

I remember seeing the fellowship on DVD and falling in love. Saw two towers the first day.

Yeah, it's just one of those things I'm on the fence about at the moment, but could end up being okay with eventually.

Still no official one sheet?

You have the two teaser posters as of right now.

It's a cool sequence. I can see where it would bother some purists but I tend to be flexible on these kinds of things.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Well, it's not so much that I can't recall the fight from the book, it's just...

Gandalf was defeated single-handedly. That's something I would expect from Sauron, but I don't remember the Witch-King being near that kind of power.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Pretty sure I read in the appendices or somewhere that as Aragorn grew in power Gandalf diminished. That is the reason why it was presented that way in the films.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

The witch king was very powerful. Not as much as Sauron of course but he wasnt weak either.

Really? He's a Maiar though. o_O

I thought only other Maiar could diminish one another's power? Hmm. Interesting.

I remember trying to read The Silmarilion in high-school. :lol
