Right?! :hi5::lol

I won't lie, I jumped on the bandwagon in 2001. I hadn't read the books prior to then and haven't since. But I'm a big fan of the film trilogy and watch the EE trilogy every year. Great, quality films :lecture

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Yeah, I started reading the books when FOTR was out in theaters. (I was in the fourth grade) I'm 20 now. Damn. Time flies.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Ummmm.... I read the books when I was 12. That was ::ahem:: 29 years ago.

Never thought I'd live to see them made into live action movies, so glad I was wrong.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Here's a question for you Josh...

In FOTR after the wraith tries sniffing frodo and the gang out of underneath the pathway, they run and see another horseman in the distance. Is this another wraith or is it Arwen trailing the hobbits?

It's always struck me as Arwen, but I'm not too sure.

There are multiple Wraiths in the area. When they get to buckleberry ferry you see several go by. So there were several in the area hunting them down.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I read The Hobbit in the 6th grade, possibly the 7th. I read LOTR in my first year of high school and then went back and reread The Hobbit.

Although, I kind of blew threw LOTR, so I didn't retain a lot of the details and I never really got the urge to go back and revisit the books. I did reread The Hobbit when FOTR came out in theaters and I believe one last time shortly after all the dvds landed on the market.

Ahh, makes sense. Yeah, I'm watching it right now and she says she has been following them for 2 days. So I doubt it was her.

Right it's not her. She doesn't start to look for them until after frodo has been stabbed on weathertop.

Y'all need to read the books again. I don't get how one could be a fan of the movies and not enjoy the books.

They're boring. I almost finished FotR. It was a chore. It's a great story, but it's not a thrilling narrative. The made up languages, poems, and songs certainly don't help either.

The films are far more accessible than the books. General audiences could watch them and enjoy them. And even if they don't enjoy them, they'd be crazy to not admit they're quality films with great effects, acting, scripting, directing, etc. I'll admit the story in the books is good and the history, languages, and lore are creative but I was bored to tears by it.... That's just me though!

This just makes me want to read them more. :lol

It's ok. You don't have to agree with me. Obviously Peter Jackson doesn't feel the way I do or else he would have never taken the time to make such masterpieces of film. I still love the movies and that's all that matters to me. I have not read the Hobbit and have no intention of doing so, even if it's an easier, lighter, more enjoyable read I don't want the background knowledge to affect my opinion of the film. I want it to be a surprise. I only know a few things here and there from dialogue in the films.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Actually, reading that stuff the first time wasn't bad, but I'm pretty sure that's why I've never had the desire to go back and reread them, due to all the poems and languages. I could skip over them, I guess, but alas, I rarely go back and revisit old books anyway. The Hobbit and the Odyssey were two of the few in which I did.
