Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Yeah, I wasn't a huge fan of a couple changes dealing with the dwarf/Orc battle. Would have like to see Dain there as well as just a glimpse of The Balrog. It's a damn cool sequence though.

Mention of Durin's Bane?

There is a scene in the teaser that looks as if Gandalf is venturing through Moria, so we might see the Balrog in the second film?

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

That's one of the things that bugged me the most. The whole Azog story line. I wish they had introduced his son Bolg instead so it would've been more in line with the book.

Agreed...Bolg story line would have been fine...Dain was important there and even somewhat shaped his future legendary dwarf status...Thorin was rather young too and I dont think was at the battle(not 100% sure though)...Thrain was in charge from the book if I remember correctly...

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Orrrrrr I was just trash talking in a jokey fashion - you know, the way we do sometimes. :cuckoo:

OK, good! I really respect Celtic for giving it a try and seeing it for himself. Old grumps stay home and complain without first hand experience. He gave it a shot and earned the right to hate it.

I doubt that...that is Dol Guldur most likely or the Goblin Kings area...

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

No, that was my biggest issue was no Balrog or mention during that sequence.

Thrain wants to go in and Dain says no because of DB from the book...oh well you cant have it all...but I for one just cant see the reason to not put it in the film story...my only guess is that they want Thorin to be a big key like Arwen...at least have young Dain in the background?..oh well

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

When Bilbo finds the ring it dosen't match the way it was shown in the Fellowship prologue where Bilbo says "What's this? A ring!".

Word to yo muthuh. Celtic P or Tom or anyone can give me some bones on the screen.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I think that's Dol Guldur.

That is correct.

Yeah, I would have liked it to mirror the book in this instance but its cool despite the change.

When Bilbo finds the ring it dosen't match the way it was shown in the Fellowship prologue where Bilbo says "What's this? A ring!".

Minor issue. You can look at it this way in that Bilbo hadn't told the truth.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Or it's sloppy attention to detail on Jackson's part.
In The Hobbit Bilbo also wasn't played by Ian Holm. Definitely sloppy attention to detail on Jackson's part. :monkey1

Do we see Smaug at all in this movie? You can see him...ish in one of the tv spots. But do we get a full look at him in the movie?

no, just an eye opening through the gold at the end

You mean Bilbo is pulling an Obi--wan Kenobi with history? :lol
