If they're not profitable enough for Sideshow, I highly doubt HT would even look at it. They'd be hard pressed to top the GTG Sideshow gave us and from what it seems, have little interest in making bodies that lack boobies and buffness so Bilbo and the dwarves would be a loooooooooong shot.

If the film is popular enough i see 1/6 figures from it. Even SS might get back in the game. Hopefully HT though, as they would crush SS's efforts. But this would be 2013 at the earliest so who knows.
(just got done reading The Hobbit again, might move on to LOTR now.)

HT's would look better.. but you would likely only get a Bilbo from them and thats it.
I'll take Sideshow. At least then I know I will at least get Bilbo and a few dwarves (though not all 9

Yeah HT you would get Bilbo and an amazing Smaug or something and that's it. SS you would get Bilbo and ALMOST all the dwarves, and then an "on hold"

Probably not going to happen, but i would love Sideshow and Weta to team up again
I think it should be spread out - Toybiz gets the toys, HotToys get the figures, Weta get statues, busts and environments and Sideshow get PF's and dioramas. Something for everyone then, and no company has too many lines going at the same time.

Seems to me that Sideshow has mentioned that they would likely give the line another shot when "The Hobbit" comes out.
Just buy the figures, everyone.

Well, that's what I'm afraid of, but you never know.
It might be JUST profitable enough for the traditional Hot Toys M.O. - a Gandalf the Grey figure, Bilbo and maybe Thorin. That'd be enough for me, to be quite honest.
I just want an awesome Gandalf figure and I'm wondering if I should track down the Sideshow one or wait out...

Still don't know why I get credit for that. It was a collaborative effort on the part of everybody!
Fixed and
They've had ample opportunities to make a shorter body, Newt, John Connor, etc., and have shied away from it every time. This wouldn't be any different and a Hobbit line without Hobbits would be a fail. Here's hoping Sideshow gives it another go.
There was a very big IF attached to that. Which, based on what they've stated in Q&A after that, likely means no. They can't even complete the Fellowship in the other formats like they said they would.
To this date, even taking the Joes into account, I still think he's like in the top 5 figures they've ever released. He's most definitely worth tracking down.

Why would it seem surprising? The whole LOTR line (minus Faramir's paint apps) was arguably their best 1:6 before the Joe line came along.
If you can find the Ex (probably at cost in the FS threads), he's even better.
