Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

This could easily be replicated in Scotland IMO

:exactly: Totally agree. I went rock climbing around Snowdonia in Wales on Sunday and the scenery was stunning. I was telling my mate this could easily pass for parts of Middle Earth.
This is what amuses me a little. Don't get me wrong, I think NZ is a beautiful country with tear inducing vistas however this planet of ours has many beautiful places which could equally serve as Middle Earth. This notion that the Hobbit/LOTR should be exclusively NZ is somewhat closed minded IMO. Filming elsewhere won't suddenly make this picture any less authentic. In IMHO I think it would actually serve to make a better movie by broadening the canvas and looking for other locations ... even if it's just 2nd unit stuff. :lecture
At the end of the day I just want the best picture possible, as we all do. I'm just not as worried as most as to whether it stays in NZ or not...:dunno

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

One thing to take into account when moving the production to, say, E. Europe or Scotland, etc. is that filming could be pushed back to allow for the fact that it will be winter in the northern hemisphere. Of course, they could concentrate on studio shoots during that time.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

This could easily be replicated in Scotland IMO but I do hope it stays in NZ since they gave so much to the spirit of the original trilogy.

That pretty much sums up mine and a lot of other fans feelings. People seem to think its all just about the scenery and that it could be filmed anywhere which is quite true but for me there missing what LOTR is all about.

Anyway none of that matters as of now so we can all be friends again.:lol

Hobbit Staying in NZ.:yess: :clap :yess:

Dwarf tossing is a real thing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwarf_tossing#Popular_culture_references_to_dwarf_tossing

In The Lord of the Rings film trilogy at the broken bridge in the Mines of Moria, Gimli tells Aragorn, "Nobody tosses a dwarf!" before jumping over a large gap himself. Later, at the Battle of Helm's Deep, Gimli allows Aragorn to throw him over a narrow defile to battle Saruman's armies after making Aragorn promise to never mention the act to Legolas. The director's commentary in the special extended DVD edition of The Fellowship of the Ring debates whether the sport originated in the United Kingdom or Australia. The director's commentary goes on to say that the writing team did not realize that dwarf tossing is not as common in the United States and other regions as it is in New Zealand, and thus did not anticipate that many fans ultimately did not know what the joke was referring to.
